Those I know of personally Vizag - Kirandul - sometime in 1960/70 Nadikudi - BibiNagar - 1970/89 (opened for trafic) Katpadi - Chittoor - 1990/early 2000s There are some more that I do not know of personally. A few more projects like Kadapa-Blr (new line without touching Tirupati) was started about 7/8 years back. Apart from new lines, there was electrification, double laning, conversion of metre guage to braod guage that was done. This is similar to converted an existing 2 lane High lane Highway to 4/6 lane highway. So instead of saying we have nothing - please build on the existing good infrastructure. | ||

I never said this :-) Some one wrote saying - AP lo railway Infra develop avvaledhu. I replied saying - AP has 5000+ Kms of Railway track which is among the top 5 states in India. Then you said - This exists before Independance. I replied - YES - India had railway connectivity even before 1947 and we built on that legacy. From there - you have been taking this somewhere else. The fact is AP has 5000+ KMs of railway tracks which is a good feat. And ofcourse we all love if more can be done in terms of connectivity and facilities. | ||

A railway network existed before 1947. Am I saying NO? From 1947 onwards, we had new tracks... broad gauge conversions, double laning, electrification etc etc. if you want to gove credit to the British for the relatively good Railway connectivity in AP - please do so. Please read - take a few breaths.... read.... few breaths.... and then understand what the other person is writing. If as per your premise, IF they wanted to only connect other states and hence they laid tracks in Andhra, then why should Waltair have connectivity. It does not exist on the main line. The fact taht Waltair has connectivity and is one of the busiest stations in the country itself shows that importance has been given to the towns and cities of AP as well. | ||

If this was the case, Vizag City should never have got railway Connectivity. It is not on the actual railway route of Kolkatta - Chennai which actually by-passes Waltair station.(today Vizag station) Additional tracks vesi - they connected to Waltair station - where trains come in and go out in the same direction even today. And some trains have started by passing like they used to do earlier to reduce thier running time. What about the Nidadavolu to Vijayawada route via Bhimavaram. Which 2 states is it connecting? Even agreeing to your premise - consider yourself lucky that you got 5000+ Kms of railway tracks just because other states wanted to connect themselves. If taht premise is true then most states except TN, WB,Maharastra and J&K got thier railway tracks because these 4 states wanted connectivity | ||

There is a great need to bring in some equanimity - lest we make a fool of ourselves in front of the world by criticizing ourselves and our fathers, due to the hatred for a particular political party! If people are suggesting that there is no difference in the standard of life between 1947 and 2014, then they are only fooling themselves! Just a case in point - Let me take the example of Vizag: Were the Shipyard, Port trust, Fishing harbour, Steel Plant, BHEL (BHPV), DCL,Naval Dockyard, Naval Command, MMTC, NTPC, Coramandel, HPCL etc etc set up by some neighbouring country? No - The various governments from 1950 onwards have established these. And because of such a masive PSU investment, there was a wave of activity in banks , educational institutes etc. And add to that the entrepreneurial spirt of the people of Godavari Dists who settled in Vizag and created a robust Service Industry around these in the form of stevedoring, warehousing, logistics, cold storages etc. And when the focus shifted from manufacturing to Technology Services in the 2000s, Wipro, Satyam, IBM etc were set up after 2005 due to the push to expand to tier 2 cities. Irrespective of whoever is in power, we need to give them credit (there may be have been multiple parties involved). One instance: BHPV was loss making and was referred to the BIFR in 2003, so that the employees get a decent VRS package. And after the new MP took over in 2004, instead of privatization / closure proceedings, he initiated discussions with the Central Industries Ministry and made sure that BHEL acquired BHPV. Today it is profit making. | ||
