title doesn't matter. if you have given the car to some one, make sure they have their own insurance. when accident happens, two party's will exchange drivers license info and insurance info. If police comes, they take license info. They dont ask for title information. Based on the license and insurance info claims are made. But if your car to some one who doesn't have their own insurance, then you will be responsible for the claims. Basically, you are allowed to drive any car ( doesn't matter who own the title) as long as you have insurance and you can claim it. Rental cars are an example. you rent a car and do not buy their insurance. Just rent and drive off as long as your have your own insurance. you can claim even though the rental car title doesn't belong to you. the only catch is, do not give your car to someone who doesn't have insurance. | ||

Unless you prove that you did not give the car to X and Y gave the car to X, there isnt much you can do. you will have to prove that X had the car and he usually keeps the car and he has his own insurance. You will have to check if X did any maintenance work recently or any other accidents happened when X was driving and claimed through their insurance in the past. You will dig in and find some evidences that the car was with X and you were let the X keep the car as goodwill or to help out. Once you establish that X was driving.keeping the car then you can be off the hook. dig in for all the evidences. Maintenance papers. if you can find maintenance work done with their name, then you can prove that they were keeping the car they are the ones who gave the car to Y. Otherwise, lesson learned, dont give your car to any one. if you decide to give, then inform insurance and also inform your friends insurance also. | ||

Get ready with that documentation. 2) You might have called insurance and told that you sold the vehicle and you don't want insurance on that... You need to ask insurance people that you need a docuemnt for that. 3) At the time of sale are there any email communications or contract or sale dead etc.. recently maa friend sold to someone and the buyer left and my friend got a notice from county that vehicle was left on the road and in county's position for more than 2 month.
