Organisers said on stage, jan 23 ni NJ tour confirmed ani. Raja said they were preparing for those songs since two months ani. It means, they don to play songs on demans on the stage but need time to prepare for them. I think they did prepare and play as there are 12 telugu songs. But the fault is with not giving enough time. I do not think there is any discrimination against Telugus. No need to abuse Tamils or IR or SPB for this situation. | ||

I think all this problems are misunderstandings are because communication gap created by perhaps organizers. Expectations were high for Telugu concert from Telugus. Ilayaraja and SPB probably do not know that that well or did not have time to prepare for those songs with the orchestra (Raja himself said "we have been preparing for 2 months" ani). Telugu audience never behaved badly, they were just asking for Telugu songs. SPB tried to mediate between both Tamil and Telugu. But Raja got upset and spoke angrily. Telugu people did not say a word after that out of respect of him. There is no need for fight over Telugu or Tamil and created prejudices. Tamils feel superior of their aakul. And Telugus feel inferior about their Aakul. | ||

yes, ippude choosa flyer. yes, it is clearly stated that is conducted by telugu association and no where it is mentioned that there will be damil songs. but still some damil guys (may be music lovers) were there. they requested songs and spb rejected saying that it is telugu concert. ======================================== ok, i take back of saying that sold tickets were sold by advertising "tamil and telugu". it was five or six months back so when I recalled the events (sambar folks requesting songs etc ) i thought that the tickets were sold to both telugu and sambar. | ||

SPB oka song two lines kannada and hindi lo paadi rest all telugu. I am one of the persons who sold the tickets including damilians mentioning clearly. bro, there were some(considerable) sambars requested damil songs. and spb clearly mentioned that it is a telugu concert. chithra did half telugu + half sambar for one or two songs. i am not sure how damils ended up in the show and what was the strategy of advertising. I know for sure the tickets were given to individuals who were selling them (i got mine through like that). nenu show ki vachanu. choosindi cheppanu. no false propaganda. | ||

The biggest flaw in SPB is his sense of humour...His arrogance and superiorty complex shows in his wittiness... He making a mockery of the participants during competitions itself does not suit his stature...Feedback can also be given constructively like Music director KOTI gives in some show (I do not remember the name). He ragging Chitra to talk fluently on stage was itself in a very bad taste. Chitra is a FLAWLESS singer both in recording and on stage. SPB does mistakes on stage but never can u find with Chitra..She is the greatest singer after Lata in terms of talent (30 state awards from 4 south languages..who can beat that record) And finally making fun of Mano who is no less talent than the greats..Amazing voice over artiste and good singer (might not be perfect like SPB) but cannot pass comments on him so sarasactically on stage..Respect yuor co-artistes is what SPB can never learn.. It only kills the spirit and motivation of budding artistes... | ||

When asked who the most talented singers of this generation was in South music, SPB answered Shreya Goshal and Sonu Nigam. SPB doesn't get upset with North singers getting chances. He too sang in Hindi. His feelings were against South Indian inferiority complex, with south MDs ignoring talent here but paying lakhs to North singers when there pronunciation is laughable at best. This is true. How many of our MDs take pictures with Udith or Sadhana, or Shreya and post it like an achievement. But they don't even pay South singers like Mano, Chithra or Sujatha properly. | ||

There r n number of concerts held in Chennai to honour IR and top actors turn up to the event and appreciate music. Similar concert was held in Kerala to honor 50 years of Yesudas and mohanlal,mammoty and dileep attended the event and enjoyed the music. I dont remember any such event happening in tollywood for the sake of music except Maa music awards. Well, perhaps Telugus should be thankful to Tamils again for 'placing' a Telugu man as Prime Minister.:-) Raja's concert in Toronto got a lot of flack too. It was an all Tamil concert. There's just no way to keep everyone happy. Of course, I too expected better proportion of Telugu songs. But organizers should have definitely arranged that better than to have artists be put on the spot. I remember SPB getting upset at a Telugu concert because audience chanted Chiru songs repeatedly. A music show shouldn't be anyone's opportunity to vent their hatred. | ||

I attended the show. There was hour or so in between when they sang all Tamil songs. Overall it felt like 1/3 rd songs were Telugu and rest Tamil. I was even o.K even if they sang in Tamil but it was a tune I knew. But this show certainly showed the hypocrite in SPB. He constantly harps on the value of lyrics and his comment stating - music has no language in response to Telugu song requests was unnessasary. If that is the case why not sing in Telugu or atleast 50-50. My advise is : if you are a telugu music lover, stay away from future ilayaraja shows | ||

Complaints should come from those that paid money and went, Not randoms who hate anyways. Organizers should have been faithful to the 40-60 Telugu Tamil ratio.:-( They can't switch all of the sudden, unless they want the singers to sing with no musical accompaniment. All 4 of the leads in the show(Raja, SP Bala, Mano and Chithra) are fluent in Tamil and Telugu. Starts off with only 5 and jumped to 12 telugu songs. Will have to wait for Nani's report. What was the attendance percentage of both? At one Rahman concert, he switched from mostly Hindu(90%) to more Tamil in 2nd half when he realized 75% of audience was Tamil. Looks like Raja treated the audience better than in Toronto show. New Jersey show had a no show in the name of Suhasini. I expected her to compere in both languages.:-( | ||

Baasulu, this is a disappointng concert mainly the fault lies with organizers : 1) very few singers - male only spb, mano and karthik, few by ilayaraja. yesudas son, hariharan did not come 2) 1 out of 10 songs tamil. i dont mind that but even those songs are not good ones. there are plenty of great tamil songs that even telugu ppl can enjoy even if they do not understand lyrics. 3) the on stage camera work is horrible. the guy operating it must have been operating forklift before. he does not show the orchestra or anything useful. 4) technical faults : mikes are making squeaking sounds often. and there was echo in audio and after the singer finishes a line, you can hear the voice 2-3 times - loudly. 5) I paid 99 for seats in the top tier. Too costly for that seating. There were plenty of seats empty in the middle tier. Ilayaraja said their team was preparing for 2 months. Organizers "very proudly" said they organized this concert in less than a month. SO, telugu songs were not planned at all. Probably Ilayaraja does not know that there are large share of telugu audience. When our Telugu people started asking loudly for Telugu songs repeatedly, he got angry and said that they should respect the artists and they have been preparing for 2 months. No one said anything after that. Very disappointed. Bad organizing and disappointed a large contingent of Telgu people | ||

This is how it has happened. Originally it was Ilayaraja's concert in Canada only- Organised and sponsored on humougous scale by Tamil event managers. In regular conversations over the phone, KAD Vasu's canadian friends casually told him that Ilayaraja's concert about to happen in Canada. Then a sharp idea striked in KAD vasu's mind keeping Ilayaraja's craze in Telugu people in mind. He pulled in right persons to arrange the same show in NJ too, and sold tickets to all telugu community hiding the Tamil Concert fact. Ticket rates are $99,$129 and above | ||

The Illayaraja concert is a big disappointment for all the telugu people. There were only 5 telugu songs and most of the on stage conversation was in tamil. The publicity that it will be a equal sharing between Tamil and Telugu is utter false and misleading. In between SPB told everyone that music has no language. This was a term borrowed from the heroine's who are used to saying that acting has no language. Atleast the actress are trying to speak telugu nowadays. Telugu lo padina patani as usual ga madyalo Tamil lo padaru but did not dare to do the other way i.e. Tamil lo padina patani telugu lo padaledu.I would want to say that "Sangeetaniki bhasha ledu kani sahityanki bhasha vundi, Paata lo vunna bhavaniki bhasha vundi". In between Mano anounced something in Telugu and Raja sir immediately asked him to translate in Tamil. Just because we respect you, you do not have to disrespect us. If you are a telugu music lover better spend the money on buying a home theater for the money you are planning to spend going to this show. You may be able to listen to more Illayaraja songs than you heard in the concert. |
