We have house which represent population based. We have electoral college which represents electoral Votes based on population. So 2 levers are based on population. The third lever senate is based on equal representation of states. This is to ensure that only certain states does not call shots. USA is republic and is conglomerate of states. It’s not a country divided into states like India but states united to create country Right now CA is largest but When the law is made, Virginia has most population. The leadership iof Other states are worried that one state will have 2 much power as VA has population of 2 or 3 states combined and thier states will be overlooked. So it is a fair process. Breaking up and stacking these are all liberal fantasies. Imagine if you take 10 metros out and divide other part of state, reps will have more senators. Nothing drastic is required. Senate changes hands every 2-4 years. Dems will get senate in 202O if not latest by 2022 | ||

Very true I don’t think Collins came up with all that in few hours, rep strategists played it well by making Collins hive that speech rather than a simple yes, they were indirectly answering all the questions that would come up. I was surprised when Trump released the list of judges he might appoint during pres campaign, it was meticulously planned, appointing Gorsuch, convincing Jus Kennedy to retire and taking another opportunity to appoint scotus, all this amidst chaos within the first 2 years I strongly believe the only reason lot of reps tolerate Trump is for this very reason Obama was loved by all but when you look back you see all the missed opportunities, Dems still don’t have the discipline, they have become activists rather than strategists. | ||

One more thing , I will say in support of Republican Party is that they are extremely disciplined. Oka pakka Trump nonsense deal chesthane, they are not bating an eye lid. One of the biggest failures of Obama time is lack of discipline. He won resoundingly than anyother president .. he had tremendous political capital capital. I heard several stories that time where Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid we’re begging him to focus on court appointees (not just Supreme Court but other federal as well). He has put his entire legacy into Obamacare ( which is not a small thing and not a bad thing) . Harry Reid had to bend the rules to get things done .. if Obama has laid off from Obamacare and focused on other issues in his first term, he could have solidified Democrat organization. But he is inexperienced and he tried to please everyone. In football language , you need running game , you cannot alway rely on throwing and Hail Marys . When they hit , they look pretty but they have higher rate of failure .. With Republicans , Trump is providing a chaos cover for them and they are slowly reshaping the courts behind the scenes!! They looked like laughing stock when they were not prepared with healthcare replacement. But that was never on their plans . They were well prepared with their judge lists. Disappointing is the correct word. But don't look at one off issue..please read my entire post!! Yes Susan Collins presnted a picture but it's still a picture. Let me play devil's advocate Go back to tax bill. She made equally passionate statement saying she has commitment for her stabilization bill. Her statement "I'm absolutely confident, I have it in writing, a statement by both Mitch McConnell and Speaker Ryan,'she said." What happened to that . They ditched it next day!! Susan Collins has this history . Today she said she is absolutely confident he will not overturn Roe. How do you believe it !?? So we need to stop taking politicians literally. She has presented the case of Kavanaugh being a judge that will respect precedent. Every judge will respect precedent . That is not the point. He chose not to answer Roe directly. That is the point. She says he will not touch it . That is her gut feel. I too believe it but I have seen enough with this administration to be skeptical . If they dig deeper , they can find a way to counter that precedent..President Trump's promise was he will bring a judge that will overturn roe!! Gorsuch called it law of the land.. Kavanaugh did not even go there. He stuck with that is the precedent Don’t think those women has no reason but political to make noises. They are not just political operatives. I have confidence in the process Kavanaugh can't spoil the judiciary branch even if he wants to( I don't think he will) . I trusted even the strongest of conservative judges like Scalia!!
