I see no issue with what Umpire did here.. Serena and the TV commentator mob made it all abt themselves and stole Osaka's moment.. rules are clearly laid down and Carlos Ramos who enforced these is one of the very few Gold badge umpires tennis has with an unblemished track record.. two thumbs up to him for not being afraid to enforce these on a player of Serena's stature and in a Grand Slam final.. I agree there's not much consistency in how umpires deal with these rules but we cannot use that to our convenience here just because someone with some balls followed and enforced them here.. thief anadam not much aa? .. i care less with what a player is going through emotionally.. you still have to put up a filter on your mouth.. also it's about the TONE, Gestures and Body language.. She just came across as a random THUG in the episode.. not that this is all new to her.. | ||

yes, i definetly would say so. in any other sport, any where, players are let to show their emotion, and call out umpires when they "feel" they might be doing something wrong. except in snotty british sports. first of all, these are not even contact sports, where there is a threat of some sort of bodily harm. If player abuse crosses some sort of line it can be dealt after the game. it has nothing to do with the talent the athlete wrt to the game. dont get me wrong, i dont do it, and i dont like players who do it. but i see nothing wrong in it. when a umpire can call a player "cheat", i think a player should be allowed to call a "theif". why do you think, a umpire should not be able to take it? | ||

I understand the colonial nature of british sports, rarely you see it in sports that are not from UK. i find it amusing that they are still being carried forward. so glad that cricket is evolving out of it. | ||

i think you missed the point vunkl... few days back, Alize cornet was penalized for changing her top... She was wearing the wrong side up... she removed it and dressed up back.. probably in 15 seconds... she has a sports bra on ... she was penalized for "disrespecting tennis" . i cant remember the number of times Male tennis players had their shirts removed... without anything else on... never seen such a penalty. here, the refree was right to point out that serena's coach may be signalling.. but when Serena threw her racquette out of frustration/anger or whatever, she was penalized for "disrespecting umpire". lol, male tennis players had done much worse and gotten away with it. | ||
