Kanche is logical and most of the time he has a point in his argument, but his solutions are insane, so is the case with most extremists. Unfortunate, his points will never be part of discussions with wider range of folks. 1) On one front, he blames Hindu societies caste hierarchy and on the other side he goes soft on christian NGOs, possibly he got benefitted because of them during his education, but this will not help his point to be communicated across the board, and as an academic it needs to be considered a failure. 2) His supporters are mostly Dalits and most non-Dalits have a hard time to digest his books because of the window of their experiences. Telangana has changed considerably in the last 40 years, and a person who is less than 40 yrs old has a hard time to believe in what he says. This happens mainly because, he does not acknowledge things have changed. His writings potray that there problem is institutionalized to the extent most folks dont even recognize it. This takes away credibility from his writings because he is not acknowledging readers capabilities. 3) He comes across as a person who detests indian culture, especially when he stated suggesting that Dalits should take up English as their main language, apart from their "tribal" language, and not use languages of the "brahminic origin", this includes Telugu. He added "Shepherd" to his name, as a sign of going away from "Upper caste" given caste name to identify his roots, which would have been "Yadav". This does not go well with most folks, even with groups that he is supporting. He is an interesting character, and may never be understood for what he is. I am no supporter of his, and i dont care what he calls my caste or religion, his writings are a different view of our society, and like i said, the basis of his views may be valid, but his deduction is faulty. Strange thing you will see in this DB regarding him, folks who claim that they dont care about caste do not like him for his stance on indian caste hierarchy, while folks who are supposedly caste lovers go silent on him . Possibly there is a region angle to this, Telangana folks might not like him because he says there is caste suppression in TG, it goes against DB usual rhetoric AP folk are caste lovers and allow caste supremacy. To me, I like to read is books. i dont agree to most of what he says, but it does offer a different perspective. One of his interesting reads is about Buddha, and why western education is a bad idea for indian backward classes. He proposes there would have been many more Buddhas from India but for western education, which more or less injects christian ideology in the psyche. He is convinced there wont be another periyar, Phule or Ambedkar or even a Kanshiram, but more christian ministers in place of them. | ||
