soft kumble : Anil Kumble while batting in the first innings was hit by Merv Dillon and as a result fractured his jaw. India scored 513 in the first innings but the injury to Kumble was a huge setback to the side and Ganguly's hopes of clinching the series that was well poised at 1-1. There was no question of Kumble bowling, in fact he was to leave for Bangalore the next day for surgery. But then this happened- "ANIL KUMBLE COMES IN TO BOWL WITH A BROKEN JAW" Yes, this actually happened. Kumble marched onto the cricket field like a lion that had been injured but had lost neither the appetite nor the desire to hunt down its prey. He bowled 14 consecutive overs and even captured the prized scalp of Brian Charles Lara. The sight of Kumble giving his best amid intense pain was an awe inspiring spectacle. This man from Bangalore was the apotheosis of perseverance and a never-say-die attitude. Legends all around the globe exalted Kumble with Sir Vivian Richards declaring, "It was one of the bravest things I've seen on the field of play." The test was drawn but the world lauded this unorthodox cricketer for his devotion towards the sport. But the ever modest Kumble was at his self effacing best when he cited, "I didn't want to sit around," as the reason for coming out to bowl. naa personal opinion- i did not like him as a pure legspinner...he was not an artist like warne but bowling wise...he is on par with McGrath...unna abilities nee perfect gaa use cheyyatam with never back down, 100% commitment if he can bring that fire to some of the players who lurk around for the moments to pass by...yea I am talking abt dhawan, nohit, our seamers etc ...it will be good he is not going to teach at skill level....no head coach does at this level...only maximize potential | ||

In my ofinion, Kumble is utter waste. He will be a proxy for Gangu and co to run Indian team and lay platform for their power game for next 20 years. Gangu was a successful captain so its ok but it is too soon. Sastry had good record and good knowledge as captain. His record as player is nothing special but it is not important. He proved himself. He should have ben continued as coach. Shameful politics and sad to see Sastry go. | ||
