Indian govt wanted these maids/help to be considered as the consulate staff and get exemption from following wage structure that US implements. Because its just stupid that Indian Government pays $4500 per month for a maid of diplomat. And pay $2300 per month to PRESIDENT OF INDIA. Theoritically, USA should allow Indian government to provide best possible amenities to indian diplomats without grossly violating Indias own policy and pay structure. Just like USA wants to provide to its own Diplomats without violating its own law and policies and pay structures. Denamma..mana buddi ekkadiki pothadi...this is the 3rd case on indian diplomats in 3 years around similar issues (Sxx assualts on maids etc). So far US stand has been clear. We followed all formalities and procedures that they would normally follow for these kind of things These are their allegations - Paid 3.3 $/Hour for this nanny where the minimum wage is 9.75 or 9 - Made the Nanny work more than 40 hours per week - Falsified documents in visa process They arrested her on these grounds. Unless we have proofs that this is not true, they have a case. I feel there is a suspicion that there are some internal consulate politics that is pulling Devayani down. I think her father is not helping going an talking on every channel that her daughter has done nothing wrong. He needs to show more proof on the above points other than showing the DS-160 form that his daughter filled on the maid's behalf. At the end of the day, we need more clarity on what the allegations. I have also read somewhere that in Obama administration, India is not even a strategic country. The India file doesnt even go to the white house. So I am assuming this issue is being handled by some low level obama administrators and not WH itself. Obama refused to meet MMD in his last visit and he finally met when we insisted. I think this is what is enraging our govt and rightfully they are protesting. This shows the deteroriation of our relations with US. This is the bigger issue. | ||
