Mav maama.. 4 may be early.. 5 is good to start.. initially i heard the same about repetitive.. but on my experience the learning is different yes it will be repetitive few time to go to next level.. two options: 1. Are you going to check the answers and make them re-do until all correct 2. Let them do by their own and find out their ability by tests taken option 1: most frustration for parents you have spend time checking and explaianing. You should be very patient. This option will know how you kid is doing by your self and can challenge more. we are doing since 5 years both reading and math for two kids. Option 2: Less stress on parents except picking and dropping once a week. If kid is very interested he/she will do it right. If they are doing because of our push then it could take more time change in levels. every kid is different. my son is good at math we always push him and challenge him. He is doing level I at 5th grade. My daughter is doing level F at 4th grade. Usually our desi kids will be poor at reading but is very important subject here. So we put them for reading also, they could improve 10 to 20% more still i thought it is worth it. Give a try for few months. if it is too sressful for the kid then you can stop. | ||

So as everyone said - if you are very methodical and have the discipline to sit with your kids every day and teach them - you do not need any of these classes.. Nenu chala relaxed - hence my kids did the in - out -in -out of Kumon too - I really did not mind that - vallaki motivation unnappudu teesukuvelli , pain annappudu maanesanu But apart from the kids I enjoy the more open ended teaching. 4 is young, you can wait for one more year....from next year,will the kid be going to a Private school/Chartered School where they have a rigiorous curriculum? Stressing kids with Math/Science from early stages is very typical of Indian parents. There is nothing wrong with that approach. But, my personal opinion is, doing too much of anything is not good. And also stressing on engligh/communication/PR skills will help the kid much more than a math/scinece wizard. | ||

If you are already sending him to preschool, you might not need Kumon. However, if you want to create a regimen of doing 10-15mins of work every day, sending to Kumon kind of places helps you understand what to teach and your kiddo will get used to it as well. KG will be a breeze, appudu roju ventapadi HW cheyinchakkarledu it is very repetitive , most kids get bored, but have seen a lot of ids who have been doing it or years, basically whatever works for 'your' kid. | ||

Kumon gives you a schedule.. They teach sounds of alphabets for Jr kumon repetition is part of the work . I feel my kid benifts with kumon , as it gives discipline .. Both reading and math .. I have tried couple of times and really did analysis. School teacher says kid would be much ahead of classmates and loose interest in the class. My personal opinion is we should not need Kumon. I value the kid understanding a problem, take his/her own time and solve on their own. Desis typically value on the time taken to solve than the comfort/authority to solve. My daughter happen to be doing better than her friends in the class *without* Kumon forever. I am fine with that and don't want to put any kind of peer pressure. | ||

My son never liked the repetitive stuff.. we initially thought he does not like math.. but he was showing natural aptitude for math - so we pulled him out.. after that we did not bother about it for my daughter (she is not as good as him in math though) | ||

Pros- the discipline of math practice everyday, speed of computation goes up Cons - repetitive and tends to get tedious..Both my kids started around 4 -then they lost interest and I pulled them out- then the went back to get their G by 5 - the older one loves math so he did not mind the grind so much , the younger one hated it by the time we came to H so pulled him out Benefit has definitely been the math speed skills..However, they learn to do it in their head and now my younger one's teacher insists on showing the work and he is having to slow down and write down steps and hates it..
