My point is that they apply it based on political expedience to them Smaller states policy unnappudu , they should first start the process in the states they are in power in ... Saurashtra demand has been there in the public for a long time - even when I lived there back in 1980 people wanted their own state and to reinstate Rajkot as their capital..just because they have not hit the streets to agitate does not mean the sentiment is not there ..the fact that BJP has brushed away the demand every time congress raised it - says they will follow their own policy only when it suits them. We have already seen indications... Radadiya was a Cong MP in Saurashtra when he raised the demand for a separate state after the 2009 T announcement - the guy then got embroiled in the Gun controversy , left his MP position and he and his sons were wooed into BJP by Modi in 2012- and flipflopped- Radadiya's current take on Saurashtra state as a BJP leader - it will be raised at an "appropriate" time Ironically, think it was over a decade ago when a demand for Saurashtra was raised by cong leaders in the state - BJP accused Cong of trouble mongering saying BJP stood for uniting people not dividing them Agitation, movement and destruction are means to protest against stated policy, they should not be needed by govt. to implement their own policy...Now if Modi began his charity at home and started that split process for Saurashtra and lead by example, before trying to fix other states , that would be impressive Bottomline : Cong, BJP, TDP, TRS -some reactants, some catalysts - at core they are all the same... India had only 6 huge states when it formed in 1947 .. and then citing "smaller states" are better for development .. we have come up to 25 states .. no new formula since then .. Saurashtra has also demanded a separate state. Formally known as United State of Kathiawar, it was later renamed as Saurashtra state after much convincing from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in 1948. Later it was merged with Bombay state in 1956 and subsequently merged with Gujarat state in 1960. People of Saurashtra have always been ignored by Gujarat government. The region remained under-developed whereas the rest of the state of gujarat prospered. People want a separate state to be carved of Saurashtra so that the region can develop and more job oppurtunities can be produced in the area. definetly, I think it is myopic view that smaller states equals more prosperity. it only speaks of lack of trust in the ability of a governing body. Like you said, it would be interesting to see BJP's reaction when it comes to a state where they hold the fort. probably they would say, development in the state is great, and there is no reason to split the state on a development basis the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||

During his whirlwind tour in August, Modi had wanted to cover the entire Telangana and promise people a new state, which the Congress party had denied them for decades. But soon after Telangana was cleared by the UPA and the Congress Working Committee on Tuesday, Modi and his Andhra Pradesh tour planners went into a huddle and decided to shift the focus to Seemandhra and cash in on the frail sentiments. "There was no choice left for Modi as Telangana is a done deal for the general public and there is nothing new for them to hear from Modi," an analyst said. "So Seemandhra was the obvious choice." In the changed scenario, Modi will tour across Seemandhra after the Hyderabad Youth conclave on August 11 and address public rallies in Tirupati, Anantapur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, senior BJP leader S Lakshman said. While the first two towns are in Rayalaseema, the rest belong to Andhra. Only Rajahmundry had been on his earlier tour agenda. During his public meeting on August 11 in Hyderabad, the Telangana issue is expected to be pushed back and the Gujarat chief minister will attack the Congress for the timing of the Telangana announcement, party sources said. "The Congress has done in the last few days what it shied away from doing in the last 9 years — to work overtime on a decision over Telangana," Modi wrote in his blog, also saying the party should apologise to the people for such delays. "Now, at a time when there are only a few months left before the people of this country to vote again, the Congress is rushing to announce Telangana. This raises serious concerns on the seriousness and intentions of the Congress." Experts said Modi's blog clearly shows his frustration and anger at the Congress for stealing his thunder at the last minute. Party leaders backed Modi's change in strategy, saying it was a calculated move by him keeping the prevailing political situation in AP in mind. "The BJP is a national party and Telangana is just one of the issues before us, while price rise, corruption and terrorism are the issues which are more important. Modi will focus on those issues," said G Kishan Reddy, BJP state president. At the Hyderabad meeting, Modi will focus more on development, urban infrastructure and jobs. He will prescribe the Gujarat model of development for AP, while analyzing the reasons for sluggishness in growth of the state, Reddy said. While the theme of the rallies will be his pet issue of development, Modi will instill hopes of building a new state in Seemandhra along the lines of Gujarat.
