Nenu anni chadivi almost anni light teesukuntunna - except for this one thing especially for children - because of the potential impact on the brain - wish someone would do a study to check if it makes a difference to the blood flow or brain waves and I can let that go as well  Rest of it is actually a pain - it limits the properties you can go into and you let go of some really good houses. At the peak of my vastu fever - east facing manchidi ani illu teesukunnam - summer anta backyard is unusable cos we have the sun beating down all evening - pillalu aadukovataniki kuda undadu .. OK HERE IS THE RESPONSE General ga rules Anand_n anaru ga feng shui or vastu are based on principles of nature.Vastu shastra is also based on astrological positions of sun, earth and other planets. Some of you might not be that inclined towards appreciating the mythological orgins or that this was actually a science that got lost in the annals of time. Vastu has some mythological origins which I will state here( if you care to read/agree fine otherwise its ok) According to Brihat Samhita, Vastu was given to the sages from Brahma the ultimate creator. There is a mythology concerning the birth of Vastu Purusha. There was a Demon, who terrorised the whole earth and heavens and he became the source of trouble to the world. The Gods became infuriated by his acts of brutality and they buried him in the earth by his head embedded in the inverted position and also started guarding that place. It became the recognised place of Gods and the buried demon was called Vastu Purusha by the Creator Brahma who also proclaimed that the construction on the earth will only be successful when the Vastu Purusha will be worshipped and respected. This worship and respect meant more than rituals. The fact that earth is living and thriving with energy is fundamental to Vastu, this energy is symbolized by vastu purusha. The land where we construct the house is actually the body of the Vastu Purusha. The way vastu purusha is depicted in the figure given below http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/813/vastupurush.jpg His height extends from the South West corner (pitrah) to the North East corner (Agni).The Vastu Purusha Mandala or site of construction also depicts the origin of the effects on the human body. All symbolisms flow from these visualizations. Purusha means 'person' literally and refers to Universal Man. Purusha is the body of god incarnated in the ground of existence, divided within the myriad forms. He is also that fragmented body simultaneously sacrificed for the restoration of unity Vastu Purusha is associated with the Earth and its movable and immovable basic elements of nature, such as the earth, water, fire, air and space; just as a human being does. The Vastu purusha mandala is in some ways a development of the four pointed or cornered earth mandala having astronomical reference points. Further, the Vastu Purusha Mandala is also the cosmos in miniature; and the texts believe what obtains in a microcosm, obtains in macrocosm too (yatha pinde thatha brahmande). Similarly, it believes that,"Everything is governed by one law. A human being is a microcosmos, i.e. the laws prevailing in the cosmos also operate in the minutest space of the human being. " In the end, the nature, the man and his creations are all one. The Vastu Purusha is visualized as lying with his face and stomach touching the ground; to suggest as if he is carrying the weight of the structure. His head is at North East (ishanya) and his legs are at the South West corner (nairutya). The South West corner (nairutya) where the Vastu Purusha has his legs corresponds to the Muladhara chakra and denotes the earth principle. Just as the legs support the weight of the body, the base (adhistana) for the muladhara should be stable and strong. Accordingly, the South West portion of the building is the load bearing area; and should be strong enough to support heavy weights. Just as the feet are warm, the South West cell represents warmth and heat; even according to the atmospheric cycles the South West region receives comparatively more heat. Svadhistana chakra is in the lower stomach region near the kidneys. It is related to water principle (apa). On the Vastu Purusha Mandala; it is to the South and to the West .Therefore the wet areas like bathroom etc are recommended in the south or in the west portions of the building. It is for sewerage (utsarjana). You must be aware of the chakra's in a human body. If you read pathanjali yoga sutras and kundalini chakras Sahasrara ,Ajna,Vishuddha,Anahata,Manipura,Swadhisthana,Muladhara,Bind u. Manipura Chakra is at the navel; and relates to energy or fire or tejas. While in the womb of the mother, the fetus is fed with the essence of food and energy through the umbilical chord connected with its navel. The Vastu Purusha Mandala shows Brahma at the navel of the Vastu Purusha. Further, the lotus is the base (Adhistana) of Brahma. Thus navel connects Brahman with Jiva or panda or life. The central portion of the building is to be kept open(That is why in our villages old houses we used to have a logili or in telangana areas it is called 'gacchu' with an opening in middle of the home. This used to give sunlight as well air circulation to the house). It is left open and unoccupied.It is believed that Vastu Purusha breaths through this open area. Vishuddaha chakra is near the throat from where the sounds come out and reverberate in space. This region represents Space (Akasha).The word OM is uttered through throat. The echo of that sound vibrates in the hallow of the bone-box of the head and in the space in brain. The head of Vastu Purusha is in the North East corner (Ishanya). The ajna chakra is between the eyebrows. This direction is related to open spaces (akasha). Atmospherically, North East is cooler and so should be ones head. The puja room Devagraha is recommended in the North east portion of the house. The limbs of Vastu Purusha, other than the above are also related to the construction of the building. Liver (yakrt) is towards South East. The cooking area is recommended in South East, because it is related to Agni. The rays of sun reach here first and cleanse the atmosphere. The North West, vayuvya, is presided over by air vayu. The Organs like spleen, rectum of the Vastu Purusha fall in this portion. The store room is recommended here; perhaps because the spleen in the body does the work of storing and restoring blood. These areas are also related to various planets and their position.The vastu purusha mandala, like the horoscope is another way of illustrating the intersection where the sky and earth meet at the horizon, at the equinox points; and the zenith and nadir The Vastu Purusha lies with his back up,perhaps to suggest that he carries the burden on his back. Pillars are not recommended on sensitive parts of Vastu Purusha; they are the inlets and outlets. The general guidelines are, the South West should be heavier and North East where gods dwell should not be so .The base should be heavy and the apex be lighter; just as in the case of a hill or a tree. The sensitive organs like brain, eyes, ears tounge are in the head; and the head should be lighter and secure. The head of the Vastu Purusha is in the North East and it should be kept free of pillars. Activities like worship, study are recommended in and towards east and adjoining directions. The Vastu follows the same principle. The middle house , the dining hall and work space represent the sun aspect. After sun set the South West and North West are warmer; bedrooms and store house are recommended here. It is said that, although water is everywhere that which cleanses the body is water and that which purifies mind is Thirtha. A brick and stone construct is house. All the Natural Energies such as Sun, Moon's magnetic power, underground energy, the energy of the earth, the energy which makes the earth move on the orbit etc. work in harmony. The proportionate storage and its use for a particular job brings good results. The Architectural corrections bring immediate results. Vastu shastra itself is an unknown science these days because the people have lost its knowledge in time. Since the earth spins from West to East and the o North Pole is inclined by 23.5 , the actual North point of the earth is situated at NORTH-EAST and SOUTH point at SOUTH-WEST. The cosmic energy coming from NORTH-EAST provides positive energy to the structures whereas SOUTH-WEST gives rise to Negative energy. Hence efforts must be made to conserve the positive energy coming from NORTHHEAST and also to arrest the flow of Negative energy arising from the SOUTH-WEST. Thus by keeping the potential high at NORTH-EAST and low in the SOUTHWEST, we can ensure uninterrupted strong flow of positive energy in each and every nook and corner of the structures. This can be accomplished by keeping maximum open spaces and doors in North and East of the plot and the least in the South and West. Anduke we hear people saying east and north lo open spaces windows undali ani. To keep the level of positive energy high, the height of the building will have to be kept low in the NORTHEAST, East and North side as compared to the SOUTHWEST, South and West Side.This stems the inward flow of negative energy. In order to maintain uninterrupted flow in the earth's magnetic field, it is essential that no pillars are erected in the middle part of the building and the number of the windows in the North should be double of that in the South, thus ensuring maximum utilization of positive magnetic flow coming from the North. Since Lord kubera is placed in the North it enhances the mental development and one gets strength to take right decisions and achieve prosperity In the morning as the sun rises, the earth is calm and peaceful. Soon the seven colours constituting the sun ray,start exerting their influences. The seven rainbow colours are VIBGYOR i.e. V. violet, I- indigo, B- blue, G-green, Y- yellow, Orange,R- red. The violet colour is dominant in the NORTHEAST of the earth whereas in the SOUTH-EAST the colour is red. When we construct four side boundary wall on any piece of land, it acts like an earth organism. In such a plot, due to VIBGYOR the influence of violet rays is maximum in the NORTH-EAST, while in SOUTH-EAST the red rays are dominant. The violet colour being cool and moist, violet colour and water are congineal. Hence NORTHEAST situated water tank, well, swimming pool, underground water tank, fountains, etc enhance the effect of ultra violet rays, which are most positive. Similarly maximum influence of red colour is confined to the SOUTHEAST position of the plot, hence if fire related activities like boiler and electricals are built in the SOUTHEAST, positive results are obtained. The problems related to electricity are reduced. The influences exerted by VIBGYOR from sun rise to sun set. The early morning sun- light is soft and pleasing to the mind. As the effects of the sun rays on the earth's atmosphere increases, its heat and moisture content go up leading to humidity on earth. The humid air causes blackness in the sun rays as they filter through it. This blackness in air increases tremendously in the west during the sun- set, producing ill effects. Now it must be clear to you that the energy coming from NORTHEAST is positive whereas the one from SOUTH-WEST is negative in nature. Slopes play an important role in the vastu Shastra as whichever side the slope is the energy of that side will exert maximum influence e.g. if the slope is to the East, positive energy flow increase and be beneficial. But if the slope is towards South and West, the negative energy will be more influential and cause harm As I said Vastu is a lost science and needs thorough research to resurrect it. I believe vastu and other such sciences like Fengshui evolved according to the geographic and social conditions of the location, like the wind direction, the monsoons etc. They have a strong local flavor and may not transplant to a different location as effectively...but that's my take..
