Der brother, I was in the same boat some 4 years back..calif lo vundevaadini..left side neck deggara lymph node swelling vacchindhi..first I thought might due to weights in the gym..oka 3 months wait chesi enthaki thaggaka pothe PCP deggaraki vella..she sent me for fine needle biopsy..her exact words "most of the time this type of swelling leads to lymphoma..we have to wait for biopsy results"..my question "what is lymphoma?" her answer "It's a cancer..but very much curable..moreover with age on your side he could easily withstand for treatment"..imagine my mindset then..got the biopsy done and nothing was found..she referred me to an oncologist who inturn referred me to infectious disease specialist(Bengali Indian)..he suspected Tuberculosis and got skin test done..skin test positive vacchindi (which is the case with most of the Indians)..somehow he was not convinced and got xray of my lungs..it came out negative..still he was not convinced and asked oncologist to take out the lymph node..attended surgery after couple of weeks, he took out lymph node and sent it to labs..after 3 weeks came to know, swelling is due to some type of carpet bacteria..(I was sleeping on the floor due to back pain before this ordeal happened)..this entire drama happened over a period of 3 months..somehow I was positive all the while and the result was also postive..all the best.. | ||

I hope it is false positive. Trust in god and hope for the best. I am not sure if you have read the story i wrote sometime ago here about a couple in VA. They said she is HIV positive and the couple went in to shock mode for a week... finally it turned out to be false positive. Couple of weeks back my wife's doctor told her she might have THROAT CANCER, but after further testing, they ruled out cancer, but we are getting one more test done just to make sure nothing is wrong. So, don't worry. Have all the tests done and then let us see what god has in store for you. Let us pray and hope for the best. | ||

Doctors can not tell lymphoma by blood tests. The only way to tell is lymph node biopsy or bone marrow biopsy. PET scan is used in staging(means how far the lymphoma has spread in the body). can I know your blood tests like RBC, WBC, Hemoglobin, Platelets, and also LDH. Most common indolent lymphoma is follicular lymphoma which has very good treatment options. Some people even not take any treatment if there are no life threatening symptoms. I had a weight loss of 8Kgs in the last month. I never bothered abt it...cuz I never felt dizzy until I ran yesterday. I had fever when I went to India last month. I never experienced chills. They took the sample from my neck. He asked me about any back pain or sudden feeling of bloating in the abdomen. PET was done at 8.30AM this morning. He said the results will be in by 9AM tomorrow. I gave one blood test this evening for some B2M and it came positive. That is when he asked me if I live with a family and asked me to call some one to be with me. The exact words he told me were: " At this stage I am not conclusive. But the intial diagnosis points at a indolent lymphoma. It is a cancer of the immune system. You have tested positive for 2 tests and at this point there is a more than 60% chance that you have this cancer. Its not deadly but I need to tell you the details as I dont have any family member with you. We will wait for tommorow's results and we will do some chemical tests ASAP. I suggest you stay here tonight though I am not sure if we will administer any drug." I called my friend and he came to pick me up. | ||

It took me a while to digest it..but I can't change it. I went to the emergency care last night. The doctor saw me and asked me to give my blood sample and I came home early this morning at 2AM. They asked me to take a PET and Lymph node needle biopsy this afternoon. I am just back from the doctor. He thinks I might have an indolent lymphoma.It is a form of a cancer that atacks the immune system. He is still not positive but has told me that there is a 60% chance of the early diagnosis being true. I am due for couple more tests tommorow Bone Marrow and Blood chemistry tests. At this point I am trying to brace that it will be positive. I have to yet inform my parents about this. Its tough. Once I have the tests, I will go back to India and then tell them about this if it turns out to be positive. In the end its all the wish of God... |
