I talk about health all the time in DB but no one pays attention makes fun of me with single stars But simple yearly Physicals can save lives Liver Panel Test(Blood Tests) shows the functioning of test but most of them dont go to any tests unless something is serious. I would suggest all even if you are in early 20's please go for atleast once a year Physicals. Everyone's health condition is different. Prevention is better than Cure | ||

i drink occasionaly...parties lo i dont drink more than a bottle... that too to be part of the group... other day, i went to my colleagues party...had good food and as usual everybody drank...before going home, the host got a call a from his frieds that they have another get to gether at 11..so i asked my fried if he was going..he said ofcourse..next day he said he returned home at 6am he says this is happens every weekend.. i asked him why does he do that... he said ' he likes to be with people around .. having fun...if not for drinking he wont have that atmosphere... after reading this thread.. i realised... in the long run he is hurting himself and his family... but who am i to judge ani picchindi.. | ||

I am not really complaining but explaining the situation. Doctors said he needs transplant to survive. They also have moral rules which makes them not to give one, because he may abuse again in future. They think, there are other genuine patients who are in need. But, think in my perspective. I cannot save him here in US. He needs to be recovered enough to move to India for further treatment (transplant or otherwise). Tylenol is dangerous and works like poison in cases like this when liver enzymes go above the normal range. Read the labels carefully even when you taking over the counter medication. | ||

Simba, sorry about your brother. looks like he got "liver cirrhosis" due to alcohol abuse. pain killers and liver cirrhosis are deadly combination. liver is very important and stubborn organ but once it is permanently scarred due to alcohol abuse there is very little chance of recovery. the only hope and way in this situation is transplantation. but like you said, here the guidelines and priority for transplantation is very stringent. they give preference to patients with non-alcohol related cases first. | ||

Recovery ki atleast few months houston lo undalsi vastundi. We have no friends or family there. I just rented an apartment and put my parents and brother's wife there. They are able to manage outside the hospital, but appreciate if there is someone around in need. As of now, his liver is functioning barely. At this point, the obvious choice was to do a liver transplant which is risky but quick fix. But, almost all US hospitals have stringent rules about the patients who need transplant. If they see the patient has been irresponsible and abusing alcohol, they would not list him as an eligible candidate to receive organ transplant. No amount of suggestions, lobbying would work. India lo ayithe, probably dabbulu tho manage cheyyochemo. So, doctors just damaged liver ni treat chestunnaru, instead of transplant. It will take 3-6 months before he recovers. Appudu they may reconsider their decision to offer a transplant. | ||

Hello All. Nenu DB lo antha active the post cheyyanu, but some of you guys may remember me. Just thought of sharing some of the things I am going through for past few weeks. Idhi na personal vishayalu, ayina cheppalani anipinchindi. Recent ga, my brother (younger) showed the symptoms of jaundice and hospitalized. Koncham week ga unnadu due to inflammation in liver but doctors treat chestunnaru. Sudden ga last week, his condition was serious. Doctors diagnosed that his liver is close to non-functioning and gave us about week of survival. Nenu ventane velli doctors in pressure cheste, they moved him to bigger hospital in houston,tx. Oka one week life support lo unchithe, he showed signed of improvement. Prastutham, he is out of danger but still critical. Doctors are doing best to keep him alive. I know consuming alcohol in social gatherings is not uncommon, but he had been abusing a bit. I cannot say he was addicted but definitely went overboard. On top of that, using drugs like Tylenol (doctor suggested), work pressure, lack of proper sleep worsened the situation. He is physically very strong and coping up with internal liver damage all along without showing any signs, until the sudden collapse. It has been mental/physical pain for him and the family to go through this situation. A few words I would like to utter. Please be responsible when you eat/drink/smoke. It is not just your life, but your immediate family suffers a lot if anything happens. Get a complete physical every year to avoid any surprises. Prepare for the worst and plan for future of the family, including life insurance, disability coverage. |
