We are not talking about individual performance...but the change in genetic make up over generations resulting in recognizable collective traits of an inbreeding population... The Ashkenazi Jews - people being eulogized in this thread... are a textbook example of genetics being influenced by society/environment... Their intelligence is attributed to a lot of factors - but a major factor is also the fact that they marry within the community and as one analyst put it - only the smart and successful find spouses within the community - the lower performing Jews end up having to find spouses outside or convert to other religions removing them from the gene pool... Why do you want to?? In matters of genetics, we are looking at a very very long time frame...How much of a person's intelligence is from his genes is not the question here.....The fact is that if a subset of people who have good "intelligence" breed within themselves over a long period of time, then there is a "good chance" that their progeny will be like them, because the gene does get "established".... Another example...It is a PROVEN fact that if your family and ancestors had a high rate of "alcoholism" in them, then the "chances" of you becoming an alcoholic are higher than the average population....Having said that, you may or may not become alcoholic....and also, your upbringing and other environmental factors will also play a part in deciding that.....But from a pure genetic point of view, you will be at a "higher risk" of becoming an alcoholic... I can give you several more examples like this.... | ||

I think your statement is very difficult to prove. How do you tell if a particular trait, non-physical, has been acquired because of the environment or because of genetic influence. For eg. you take a very intelligent student. I think it is very difficult to tell how much of his intelligence is contributed by his genes, and how much by the environment he grew up in. | ||

Not true Ishan...Environement influences genetics and vice versa; and they both definitely influence human behavior... "genes" do get "stabilized" in a community....be it the good ones or the bad ones....It happens over a long time; so, it doesn't really matter if some of the individuals end up not getting those traits...It's an ongoing process and will continue to happen as long as there is massive inbreeding... However if a subset of population claims they are genetically superior to others, then it is utter crap...every community has it's good and bad genes.. Natural or artificial selection works only at the physical levels. Also, selection is next to impossible to implement in the case of humans. For example, lets say there is a family belonging to a particular caste renowned for a particular ability. In that family if a weakling is born who can't possess that ability, he will not be evicted out of the family (as opposed to that of selection). But he will be still identified with the same caste and he will propagate his progeny. That is exactly what has been happening in human societies. Some food for thought...Have you thought of the process of natural selection impacting what traits are passed on over generations based on the trades available to them ? Is it not possible that in a subset of society that lives on a certain trait- which makes them better at the assigned skill - the ones with that trait end up being successful and find mates and propagate their genes...causing other traits within that subset of society to be wiped out of existence ? If a militant community needs 6 ft muscular, aggressive guys and these are handsomely rewarded , the marriage market for the 5 ft brainy, weaklings diminishes .. potentially propagating the "giant" gene at the cost of the "smart" gene ? Society and environment has considerable influence on genetics .... Next BC communities very few educated support any one of the OC people , frankly they really don't have luxary to share in this caste vudyamam. I find most Gujarathis to be very hard working and extremely adaptable. From my understand Gujarath is a very forward state too. That can't said about many other parts of India. I care caste only for marriage and wish my kids get married to someone from my caste. Ofcourse this is only wish. Coming to the caste i prefer most it would be no doubt Kamma. The only reason is my father's best freinds are from that caste and after my father's demise on kamma uncle helped our whole family and we should be indebted to him for ever. later also many friends from that caste became good friends for me. hinduism lo anni castes worst... other communities ni accept sesedi or help sesedi sala takkuva.. that's the biggest prob with hinduism.. we may need another 200 years atleast to come over this caste system... earlier we had vaishnava/shiva/shakteya/etc religions within hinduism.. now most of the people doesn't care (except brahmins) about vaishnava/shiva/etc. Personally I like Sikhs very much... they are very helpfull to everyone in their community as well others.. only black page is khalsa movement in sikh history.. otherwise they rock like anything.. other religion I like most is BUDHISM.. I never heard they troubled other community ot vice versa.. except in SriLanka.. I like Kammas. for various reasons. 1. They are one of the most successful in any field especially in the last 3 decades 2. They are united unlike any other caste 3. They are helpful to others (my experience). Especially entrepreneurs they help others a lot. They contribute to charities more than any other caste. I know them 4.
