Several milk purchasers and resellers have elected not to purchase milk produced with rBST. The nation's largest dairy processor, Dean Foods, no longer sells milk from rBST-treated cows, and the top 3 grocery retailers in the nation, Wal-Mart, Kroger, and Costco have pledged not to sell such milk in their stores. Specific examples include: * Winder Farms, a home delivery dairy and grocer in Utah and Nevada, sells rBST-free milk. * Safeway in the northwestern United States stopped buying from dairy farmers that use rBST in January 2007.[23] The two Safeway plants produce milk for all of Oregon, Southwest Washington, and parts of northern California. Safeway's plant in San Leandro, CA had already been rBST-free for two years.[24] * Chipotle Mexican Grill has also announced it will serve rBST-free sour cream at its restaurants.[24] * Kroger has banned rBST-derived milk from all its stores (including its subsidiaries such as Ralphs) as of February 2008,[25] * Publix announced it has been rBST-free since May, 2007.[26] * Braum's has also issued a press release stating its milk is rBST-free.[27] * Starbucks Company has as of January 2008 made all dairy in beverages rBST free.[28] * Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores featured hormone-free "Great Value" brand milk, but did not label it as such in 2008.[29] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovine_somatotropin www.prajarajyam.org - syntax error, unexpected |

Wrathchild:
http://www.organicconsumers.org/rbgh/oca_rbgh.cfm When Elaine Greene, an environmental consultant in Raleigh, N.C., noticed her daughter developing breasts at age 9, she was alarmed. Greene recalled hearing that the age of puberty was dropping among American girls -- a trend that worries some health experts. She also had read articles speculating that artificial growth hormones given to dairy cows to increase their milk production might be responsible. Greene isn't alone. As organic food producers and advocacy groups have promoted theories linking milk from hormone-treated cows to early puberty -- as well as to increased antibiotic exposure and cancer risk -- sales of organic milk have soared, even though it costs up to twice as much as the conventional product. www.prajarajyam.org - syntax error, unexpected |

Truelies:not exactly organic..most of the milk, chicken package meeda raasi untundi "from cows not treated with rBGH hormone" ani..idi safe...ila notice lekapothey then its not good ani antaru... ee rBGH hormone cows ki isthey, avi ekkuva milk isthayi..thats not good for kids especially for girls.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says rBST is safe for consumers and that milk from rBST-treated cows is no different from milk from non-treated cows: Before the 1993 approval of rbST, FDA determined that the recombinant, or genetically engineered form of bST is virtually identical to a cow's natural somatotropin, a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the production of milk. During that rbST approval process, FDA concluded that there is no significant difference between milk from treated and untreated cows. For that reason, FDA also concluded it does not have the authority to require special labeling for milk and dairy products from rbST-treated cows, and that producers have no basis for claiming that milk from cows not treated with rbST is safer than milk from rbST-treated cows. http://www.snopes.com/medical/potables/walmart.asp |
