Modi popular but BJP hasn't decided yet: Naidu PTI Panaji, January 30, 2013 First Published: 13:47 IST(30/1/2013) Last Updated: 14:41 IST(30/1/2013) Senior party leader Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said that there is no dearth of leadership in BJP, if it was to project its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. "There is no dearth of leadership in BJP. Advaniji (L K Advani), Sushmaji (Sushma Swaraj), myself... all have set of records," Naidu said. "The party will discuss the issue of the PM candidate at an appropriate time," he said, responding to a query seeking his reaction on Yashwant Sinha's support for Narendra Modi. "Modi is voted to work as a chief minister of Gujarat. He is a national leader. He has all qualities of national leader but the question is that the party is yet to have discussion on the PM candidate," Naidu said. The party after discussing the PM candidate, will have further deliberations with its allies before announcing the name, he said. Responding to yet another question, Naidu ruled out any impact of dissidence within the BJP in Karnataka on the prospects of the party in that state. "There is some affect on the party due to the statements and counter statements by the leaders but people will vote back BJP to power there," he said referring to the developments in Karnataka. Talking about Congress, he said the rulign party would be decimated in 2014 Lok Sabha elections owing to its failure on all fronts notwithstanding the emphasis that party is laying on projecting gen next leaders. "Nobody will be able to save Congress party from facing defeat in general elections. As and when elections are held, that party will suffer a humiliating defeat...Congress would be reduced to double digit in 2014 Lok Sabha polls", Naidu said. Without naming Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Naidu said "the debate is that somebody is going to save the Congress is useless...They may have a youth leader or not". He said a strong wave is rising against Congress in the country as people are feeling "betrayed". "People look at Congress as betrayers. UPA government has failed on various fronts", he alleged. Taking a dig at Congress, Naidu said Congress may opt for advancing the general elections as "the party is already facing several scams and it would not wait for more scams to be added before elections (on due date)". Terming as unrealistic the policy decisions of government, Naidu said "the petrol prices are hiked 15 times while that of fertiliser by 20 times...Government has also restricted supply of LPG cylinders to nine per year". | ||
