Chintu002:He added that the decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to lift the restriction of the two-month gap on re-entry of foreign nationals to India on a tourist visa would facilitate visitors to the country to a large extent.
Dumb! The reason why that restriction had to be introduced was - 1) terror activities ni facilitate chestunna David Headley type of people could frequent India in the garb of meetings etc (kind of lame excuse though) 2) More importantly, missionaries are using it to bring pastors, and other xian heads to indulge and encourage religious conversions .. (better deterrent) North East lo migili unna 5-10% Hindu tribes ni kuda Christianity ki convert chesestaru ippudu .. Chintu002:Ten per cent of the 12th Five Year Plan budget has to be allocated to the North-East region and I am happy to state that we have exceeded this target, which will help in the development of tourism in the region.
good job Chiru .. try to protect local North East cultures as well, take that care while encouraging tourism activities .. Hope you do! India must conquer the World and nothing less than that is my ideal - Swami Vivekananda |

His heart is clearly Hindustani ---------------------------------- As a film star K Chiranjeevi used to travel to foreign countries to shoot songs with the female lead in picturesque locations. From the time he took charge of the ministry of tourism two months ago, the superstar-turned-politician has been busy visiting foreign countries. First it was Britain. A few days ago, he toured Vietnam with his wife. Though he stopped acting in films after entering politics, he certainly has not forgotten the interests of his fraternity. The minister has asked the Vietnamese authorities to provide good packages for Indian filmmakers so that quaint Vietnamese locations can be captured in films and attract Indian tourists. Chiranjeevi might like to make such a pitch in Laos, Switzerland and Japan that are on his itinerary for the rest of January and February. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ylbO-DI0m40/UP1_Cn2DlCI/A AAAAAAAErQ/agSSwUTmGeo/s720/487314_553057871373998_195822602 8_n.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pfdUK6zyzlI/UP2Cg2t8_wI/A AAAAAAAEs4/om-1whv4HS0/s502/537379_4061689792982_473404494_n .jpg BOSS full busy busy Chiranjeevi is my God! Abdul Gani, Guwahati (Jan 19): For Shahib Shabuddin, Saturday was one of the memorable days in his life at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. Not because of the International tourism mart but for having the opportunity to meet his hero from a very close quarters. Shabuddin was a happy man as he got photographs clicked standing aside by none other than Chiranjeevi. "I'm extremely happy to meet him. I knew that he will be coming to Guwahati and was praying to God so that I can meet him. My dream comes to reality", said the 25-year-old student who has been staying in Guwahati. Not just him but several others rushed for the moment to stand beside Chiranjeevi for a photograph. On the second day of the Tourism Mart, these youths were looking for an opportunity and finally grabbed it after a press conference. Their hero too seemed to be moved by the gesture as he waited for few moments for his fans. R Mahadevan who hails from Andra Pradesh said that he never had the opportunity to meet the superstar in his own state but happy to meet him in Assam unexpectedly. "I had attended several programmes where he was present but on Saturday I was lucky", Mahadevan smiled. Chiranjeevi who made his debut in 1978 through the film Punadhirallu enjoyed a huge fan following especially in South India and the country overall. In a film career spanning over three decades, Chiranjeevi has acted in 149 feature films. He won four state Nandi Awards and ten Filmfare Awards South. Chiranjeevi was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, for his contributions towards Indian cinema. In 2006, he was presented an honorary doctorate from Andhra University. Even after joining politics in 2008, the 57 year old actor still enjoys a huge fan following. Chiranjeevi is my God! Jai Chiranjeeva! |

Chiranjeevi is not just an accidental tourist -------------------------------------------------- Abhijit Deb, Guwahati (Jan 19): Filmstar-turned-Union minister Chiranjeevi is not just an accidental tourist to the Northeast. He is a man with a mission. As the first-ever International Tourism Mart opened in Guwahati on Saturday, the Union minister of state (independent charge) for tourism hinted that the event could become an annual calendar feature if the ongoing conclave achieved its objective of increasing the number of inbound travellers to the region. The minister once a highly-successful and hugely popular cinestar down South was on his first-ever visit to the NE. Chiranjeevi, who addressed a press conference after the inaugural ceremony, said he was well aware of the tourism potential of the NE states and added that his ministry would leave no stone unturned to make the region a hot spot tourist destination. The ministry expects that in the aftermath of the event there will be a sizeable increase in the flow of international tourist to NE which could go up by more than 20 per cent in the next two years. The ministry was also hoping that if thing go as planned, than there could be even an 100 per cent increase in the flow of inbound tourists in the next five years. The minister, who asssumed charge of the tourism ministry in November last year said, "If the Northeast states desire, depending on the success of the event, we can make it a regular event". He revealed that his ministrys allocation for the region has exceeded the mandatory 10 per cent of its plan budget. In 11th five year plan Rs 560 crore has been allocated from the tourism ministry for development of the industry in the region. According to the union tourism ministry, various promotional schemes are being pursued by the government to promote tourism in the international arena. The ministry of home affairs recent decision to lift the two-month gap on re-entry of foreign nationals on tourist visa was a welcome step in this direction, Chiranjeevi said. Host state Assam has spent an amount in excess of Rs 4 crore to organize the event in association with the ministry of tourism. Chiranjeevi is my God! Jai Chiranjeeva! |

Overseas delegates, including diplomats, tour operators, hoteliers, etc., from Europe and Asia, were upbeat with the interactions they had with their counterparts during the three-day Mart. They will be taken on Familiarisation (FAM) tours to various destinations of the North East region in the next few days for a first-hand feel of the areas, according to various reports. Altogether, 79 delegates from 23 countries participated in the event, apart from travel and tour operators. J B Patnaik, Governor of Assam, inaugurated the Mart at Sarusajai Stadium, in the presence of Dr K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State with Independent Charge for Tourism, Government of India. Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Chiranjeevi, who was on his maiden visit to the region after assuming charge, said the Mart could become a regular feature in the North East if the states so wished. He said the Centre was taking several initiatives to promote tourism in the region. He reiterated the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India's target of increasing India’s share in world tourist arrivals from the present 0.6 per cent to one per cent in the next five years. “India has emerged as a leading tourist destination with all its varied attractions and arrival of foreign tourists has been increasing, but we need to accelerate the rate of its growth,” he said. He added that the decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to lift the restriction of the two-month gap on re-entry of foreign nationals to India on a tourist visa would facilitate visitors to the country to a large extent. Stating that the relaxation would also benefit the North Eastern states, Dr Chiranjeevi said, “My Ministry is committed to the development and promotion of tourism in this beautiful region. Ten per cent of the 12th Five Year Plan budget has to be allocated to the North-East region and I am happy to state that we have exceeded this target, which will help in the development of tourism in the region." The Minister urged stakeholders to have the vision to modernise, responding to changing trends in the Global Tourism sector and to partner with the Indian government to make the country realise its full potential in tourism. MoT is hoping to see a significant increase in foreign tourist numbers to the North East by next year as a result of the Mart. “We hope to see a 20 per cent growth in foreign tourist arrivals and a 100 per cent growth after seven to eight years if the Mart keeps on growing and becomes an institution,” Parvez Dewan, Secretary Tourism, Government of India, said. This is the first international tourism mart to focus on a specific region of the country and the authorities are banking on it to transform the North East into a leading tourist destination. Arunachal Pradesh, in particular, succeeded in hogging a lot of limelight during the tourism mart. It put up a grand pavilion showcasing its potential in nature and Adventure Tourism. According to Sonam Chombay, Secretary - Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the easing of the procedures of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to facilitate easy travel of domestic tourists to the state has been beneficial. “The Protected Area Permits (PAPs) for foreign tourists have also been simplified. Destinations such as Tawang, Mechuka and Namdapha are attracting a large number of visitors,” she said. Chiranjeevi is my God! Jai Chiranjeeva! |
