I guess you dint get the point...its not about the struggles of loosers to become winner ...or struggles of poor to become riches... Its about the people being loved and adored for being good regardless of social status.... Sorry to say this. Disclaimer: Purely my personal view. No comments on the box office result of this movie: While I was driving to the movie hall this morning, there was a small traffic jam near Narayanaguda and I was getting impatient. I just don't like missing the beginning of any movie. That jam fortunately lasted only five minutes and I ended up in the cinemas well in advance. But the jam I found myself in after the movie started, lasted upwards of at least one hour during which nothing remotely interesting was unfolding on the screen. Yes, there was this introduction song - beautifully shot - with stunning visuals of Vizag beach and Hyderabad roads and Mahesh Babu was real eye-candy (judging by the reaction from the girls in the auditorium - He is surely a hunk-o-rama!). All these were over in the first fifteen minutes. Post that, till the interval - the story goes roughly like this. Every girl in the world (on the screen) ogles at Mahesh Babu, giggles with every other girl, again ogles at Mahesh Babu, again giggles. In all this mayhem, Mahesh has a "I know" kind of smile on his that apparently didn't come from his heart as we would learn at a later point of time in the movie. Girls in this world, always spoke their mind out. They did not believe in nuance or communicating between the lines. Remember the heroine friend's episode in Turkey from the movie Dookudu where she ends up praising Mahesh Babu not knowing he also understands Telugu? Now, apply the same for every girl in this movie. And don't even bother to hide behind language barrier. It is cute. Sort of. After a while, you are bored. Yeah we get it. He is the most handsome guy on the planet. Let us move on! OK. I stand corrected. There was one girl there who didn't ogle at Mahesh - Anjali - in an author-half-baked role that required, again a nuanced performance, and which the girl completely botched up by taking cue from probably Genelia in the movie Orange. Her voice and diction were good for five minutes. Then I had to concentrate on her appearance instead of her dialogues. Not a bad idea considering she was quite a looker. Hell! She was the best looking babe on the screen. Appearances wise she was at her best. Samantha was at her worst. Anjali would ogle at Venkatesh instead but in a more traditional way. By the way, much has been written about Samantha's ill health spoiling the schedule of the movie. They should have put a cut out of Samantha there instead. No one would have noticed. Venkatesh! I forgot all about him. He came across as a confused soul and I suspect it was not because the character was confused. All that he had to do was to look upwards at an angle of 30 degrees and mouth a few lines. He had absolutely zero clarity on his character. (I guess the director also had no great grip on that role). Imagine an hour of this. Then imagine Abhinaya Sri in a role that requires no dialogues. (I think it suited her to the T considering her real life problems. She looked gorgeous and did what she had to do.). She would then get married and we would get an interval bang that wouldn't quite justify the word "bang". A flutter was more like it. It was after the interval break that the movie actually started to huff and puff slowly albeit. Even then, it was confusing in many scenes as to who was angry with whom and for what reason! Then it was equally confusing why and how the problems got sorted out, what was the impetus and who the hell was the director? Srikant Addala of course. He completely failed as a director in this movie. He basically stuck to his beaten-to-death script philosophy. Two tear jerker speeches at the end. That was it. However, in his earlier movies, he at least had a good lead up to that climax. Here there was nothing before the climax. So the tear jerkers, though managed to shed a tear off every other person watching the movie, sizzled out pretty lamely. Songs came and went. Production values were nice though the Bhadrachalam fire accident episode gave the water tanker scene in Venkatesh' "Subhash Chandra Bose" a run for its money. Prakash Raj and Jayaprada were wasted. Mahesh and Venkatesh were wasted. Kota and Tanikella Bharani were wasted. But nothing matches the colossal waste of this man - Ravi Babu - After an introduction that matched his Murari role, he was mercilessly relegated to the background and even totally forgotten about in the second half of the movie. Entertainment - is a term that varies from person to person. I found zero entertainment in this movie. There wasn't even an iota of humor. The message conveyed was confused. The main conflict point of the movie - the point on which the whole execution hinged - was left unresolved at the end. The so called "end" did not answer any of the questions. It was business as usual for the two - Peddhodu and Chinnodu - And the only difference from the time the movie started to the time the movie ended was one of them got married! Everything else stayed put. And that's not quite the end we were rooting for. The only positive from this movie is Anjali. Though she hams and hams in this movie, it is clear that she has the spark. In the hands of a more experienced director, she can at last fill the void left by Soundarya in TFI. Watch Seetamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu for the handsome Mahesh, the beautiful Anjali and the innovative trailer of Kalyan Ram's "Om" in the interval! My rating: Wait for the DVD and the keep a finger on the fast forward button. Naaku nacchindi janaalaki nacchadu... Janaalaki nacchindi naaku nacchadu... Nenanthe.. adho type. |
