Today I dropped by my old friend and mentor. He was a process engineer at Kodak who designed the Blood Analyzer that was sold to J&J, which is now a 1Bn+ business unit. He is also one of the three Rochesterians alive who created businesses worth more than 1Bn. So he asked me what I am upto. After a little, we talked about AMRN. He is 75+. His memory is sharp as a tack. He told many amazing things. Thought I will share. It's a long winding story but eventually will come to AMRN. --------------- Way back when George Eastman was developing the film, the first film was based on cellulose nitrate. it seems it is very flammable. in some cases, the negatives started igniting and in one really bad case, they lost an entire kodak lab after a fire. so Eastman hired a prof H from U of R. His job was to solve this. Young AB (my friend) was his lab assistant. Prof H, wuickly figured instead of cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate will be more stable and does not catch fire. Great. Only one problem. The acetate film is brittle. It was breaking in pieces if it is not handled with extreme care. Eastman sent them back to the drawing board. Prof H, started a search for what is called "plasticizer". Mind you, plastic was as fancy as semiconductors now at that time. H's idea is based on common sense. Find something transparent and blends with acetate so that instad of breaking it becomes elastile. H also used to eat cod liver oil for health. One day he mixed some cod liver oil to the acetate and made the film. it did not break at all! Only problem, it is not transparent enough. encouraged by the base material, he wanted to purify it by distilling it for the essence. when he distilled at above room temperature, the lab stank but nothing came out. So he went back to the good old Boyle's law, and figured if he distills in vacuum, the boiling point falls so low, he can distill it at below room temparatures. voila. he separated the cod liver oil and crude, he used it in the film and made Kodak rich. But then H found something else. when he distilled, he found that he can amke the purest form of Vitamin E and Vitamin A also. Kodak started making these two products. Eastman wanted everyone to have a good eyesight, to enjoy movies and pictures, Vitamin A helps that, so Kodak sarted making A &E vits and made a lot of money, at 2000% margins. When Hoffmann&Roche made the vits synthetically, they lost the market. So what AB said was, Vitamin E is an extremely complex and sophisticated compound, with stereometric polymers (or whatever). There are two halves, and body can use only one half and other half is a waste. this is the reason you need to take so much of raw fish fat to get any results, and the unused part does not metabolize well and makes the body and skin stinck. He says, AMRN must have found a way to further separate the Vit E into EPA and DHA to attain the 97% pure grade they are talking about. The must have been able to separate the stereometric polymers to keep only the good stuff. He says it will be extremely potent and will be 0-toxic to humans. he also said FDA would approve it easily since it is a derivative of fish. option value is based on iv (intrinsic value) + tv (time value) + Beta (volatility) + Theta (dont rem what this is). For may calls, problem is you are losing time rapidly, so TV takes over IV. To beat the fall in TV IV has to go really up a lot. For short term options you get one chance, you must unload. You may have missed that. FIO and ZNGA results are good. Shorts are in force. They just dont like any stocks. Till the momentum returns no results are good enough. Amamzingly AMZN popped $26 for making $120 mil in the whole quarter! Apple made 10.2 Bn. Dont know what magic dust Bezos sprinkles on the market. ZNGA higher revs, low profits. In a way good, it reduces selling pressure from employees. 32% grpwth in revs is good. SBUX down slightly after reporting. Below 55 a good pick. AMRN killed the chart. EDAP also rocked.
