SOLR/Lucene both offers filter framework. (one can plugin custom version of filters. Java code compiled & deployed to SOLR) Along with this search request, we append these hidden filters to the orginal search request. long with the search, filter will be executed at lowest level. | ||

Along with document & its metadata, we do index the object's security. During search, appropriate filter will evaluate the security. Not only RDBMS security, we are mapping application security(rules/ ACLs) etc. This is how I am building federated search. | ||

great topic. would appreciate some help in installing and integrating solr on MySQL/Linux. have you integrated SOLR into an SQL paradigm? let me state the reqmt properly. I would like to do a full text search, but the results are to be filtered using a security layer. Right now the security is implemnted using SQL. I answered you in private. Thanks. for the benefit of others, briefly: Before I wrote the slides, I spent a few mins thinking how I would learn the SQL if I were to learn again. I am following that instinct. Till you reach DDL or Optimization, the concept of keys do not figure in learning. I did not want to present any concept that is not completely necessary at that point. So in my view, Keys can wait till they are required. Same is the reason for not mentioning JOIN even once in 2.5 hours. First I wanted to teach subqueries solidly. Once you learn the subqueries, you "unlearn" them by learning the Join. Mathematically, a correlating subquery is nothing but a JOIN, albeit yielding one column. that's how I would gradually introduce the concept. as per the lesson plan, it will be hard to list it without having the material. broadly, the next courses are: Retrieval -II : covers joins, Recursion (modern in depth and classic in passing), Rollups, Cubes, other OLAP functions and UDFs. Modeling I: DDL, ER Concepts, Normalization Modeling II: Indexing, Optimization and revisit Retrieval Reports II: Crystal Reports revisited, BW Reports with Rollup, Cubes and OLAP functions PL/SQL: Triggers, Stored Procedures, concepts of cursors, transactions, isolation, other misc features Modeling III: OLAP vs ER, Dimensions, Facts, Star Schema, BW Modeling ETL: ETL concepts, and some tool (to be decided). I have upto this in my mind. I need to see what comes next if we still have weeks left. We have 13 more to go. maverik, i designed a PPT template with colors theme and font, a logo, a name, a twitter account and 30 slides on Friday night (4 hours), another 15 slides Sat evening. I could cover only 30 slides in 2.30 hours non-stop. The session was good. though most concepts are not new to me as I have exp on databases, i have never heard closure and orthogonality in the context of databases(i never read the theory...learned it only while working on it)......the way entikaburlu took the concepts of closure and orthogonality to subqueries is really beautiful.....this is the way SQL should be learnt I strongly recommend vuncles/vaunties who want to go into IT to attend the sessions......no matter where you want to go testing, BI, programming, you have to deal with data........the method of delivery is neat, organized and kaburesh really knows how to take it from one level to another.......the best of all, where do you get a guy with decades of experience teach you patiently and goddamn it is free(trust me, even if you pay, you are not going to get such free interactive sessions) | ||
