NJ minus cold winter months is almost equivalent to CA. If you think there are no ghetto type areas like iselin, jersey city, oranges in california then you havent seen it all. If you think NJTP/GSP are worst traffic routes then try going on 5, 405 for about say 10miles. One positive thing in socal is, we have moving traffic.
Coming to indianess.. Ikkada Artesia ani untadi.. Oaktree road tho poliste aak paak karepaak. Worst quality, high rates. I personally would like to stay in a place where I can go to india in one-stop. If you live in IN or many mid-west states you gotta travel to either chicago or nj/ny.
We tend to live or opt for calif just coz of weather and nothing else. If you think apt/condo rents are cheaper in calif, you are dead wrong.

Soa far nenu MI, WI, MN, CA loo vunnaa close friends OH, IL vunde vaaru. So Naku Bay Area kanna midwest prasanthamgaa veluthaa vutnundhi ani feeling. no rana gona dwani kind of thing. NJ/NY loo CA ki vunna bad qualities tho paatu bad weather so alaa post chesaaa. I may be wrong that is only my personal feeling.

Depends on lot of factors tammi, it is not that straight forward. For example, the 3X home in TX you are talking about may not appreciate as much as 6Y home in CA over the average time of your residence. That is just one consideration. What about market conditions? Are they favorable to home owners when you choose to sell? You can easily sell your CA home than your TX home. Lot of these factors determine the prices of housing in a city. These should be your secondary considerations for buying a house. Your primary consideration should be exclusively your financial situation and what you can afford to pay for the monthly mortgage payment without loosing sleep. |

Iselin,Edison abd brunswicks comes under Middlesex county , you can ignore these two towns because these are crowded with desis who work in NY staying in NJ just for commute and school zone purposes. excluding above there is lot of NJ which is in par with any south east or mid west states. |

Okkokkari preferences okko laaga untaayi. naavi kinda list chesthunnaa.
1. The pressure is building on me to move away from cold weather. So naaku North East kudaradu. Idi naa preference kaadu, wife di. But, thana preference ki highest priority isthunnaa coz her opinion matters a lot more to me than mine.
2. Naaku long commutes (time not distance) ishtam ledu. I don't mind driving 30 miles to work if it takes <=30 minutes. Anthey kaani tikku tikku antaa 30 miles ki 60 minutes antey no.
3. House price should not exceed 3 times my gross annual pay. Big backyard, big kitchen, big bathrooms - must haves.
4. reasonable job opportunities. if there is any other company I am sure I can find a job. anthey kaani city ki okey okka company undi adi divaala teesthey maaralantey naaku kashtam.
5. Desi grocery stores in less than 30 mins drive.
6. Airport in the same city or within 30 min drive.
These are enough for me. I don't care who lives next door and what goes on two blocks down the street from me.
Issue 1 is not a problem for me, but due to HD it is the highest priority.
So far, except points 1 and 4 everything is applicable to where I live. But, aa points kooda match ayyevi dorikithey I will be glad to move. Adi bottomline.

If I am given a choice between living in an independent house, with a big backyard, inground pool, 3000+ sqft house and a small 500 sqft studio, I will go for the bigger one.
I think this applies to people who commute to NYC for work. Why stay in NJ? NYC lo Manhattan lo oka studio konukkuntey all set kada. Why buy a million dollar mansion in NJ and commute to NYC daily for work?

House prices?? Minimum 5 to 6 times more for a house that is much smaller with less amenities.
I came across many desis moved around many places including NJ, FL, TX, CA etc etc. Most of them, when they are ready to buy a house, opted for VA area for a combo of all things.. jobs + public schools(this is #1 priority for most of them) + good housing + pay (though it is less compared to NY, CA but much better compared to areas like TX, FL and other mid west places etc) |
