This was my first choice ending  but then it would have branded the family as fraudsters leaving them at risk ... so the next best was he comes , says he no longer wants to be part of the industry he’s retiring and going back to roots ... leaving him free to find a channel of choice - which he did - btw I checked last night again - there is no explicit mention or clues of it being his grandson so props for that And +1 on Vijay’s portrayal and the Aurangzeb sequence ... poetry on celluloid indeed The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim | ||

Well, in that case, he would have had to deal with empty stands again. I think he wanted to see the other side of the coin, which he had shunned all through his life. I agree it is a bit odd that he was pinning everything on his friend. Irony! as the whole second half was about managers calling the shots. My ideal end to this story would be - Judge asks the producer to enact the sequences; the producer relents and tries to do it and surprisingly makes a great job (Thank Ayya). Ayya's family and his friend realize that Ayya is back in the courtroom. Judge calls in favour of the producer. Everyone goes home. People throng to the auditorium to see if Ayya ever comes back. This increase in the number of footfalls encourages the drama troupe and they start producing some really marvellous shit (Pardon my French) carving a niche that stands the test of time. There are a few problems in the movie I agree (For instance, a repetition of "Guy cannot act" sequence - Yes, both scenes are hilarious but the second one is almost identical to the first one.). However, still as a whole it is one of the better movies I have seen in a long time. Vijay should get a national award for his Aurangazeb portrayal. Damn! 10 minutes or so of pure magic - single shot. And great camera work. This world appearance is a confusion: even as the blueness of the sky is an optical illusion. I was actually thinking why would he not pick an unknown theatre group/artist so he could indulge in the art instead of being anchored to the family , the image and it’s trappings. But come to think of it hubby was watching with me and conjectured he would show up in his grandson - so I presumed the kid was the grandson - did the movie actually show him to be ? It would make a lot more sense if it did not - as it would truly be a fresh start... Maybe Ayya was not looking for that. Maybe he was tired and wanted to hang his boots. He tried all he could. Then, disillusioned with the way the world works, left without a trace. Here’s why I wanted Ayya to reappear in courtroom - the movie let the so called managers and their greed beyond the need off the hook ... it did not explain why a man so opposed to cinema chose the channel past the need was fulfilled...the popularity in film could have been used to revive the art form he loved - it diminished the character and the artistic quest ... Glad you liked it. I actually loved the ending. Ayya coming back and providing an explanation would have been so cliche and predictable. The director took the road less traveled. That court room scene probably could have been done better but Ayya should definitely stay away Ayya's Aurangazeb episode was beyond awesome. It was celluloid poetry and Vijay Sethupathi earned a standing ovation for that scene. Kudos to him for choosing this "unconventional" movie as his landmark 25th film. Seethakathi - excellent premise , excellent acting by Sethupathi ...some wonderful characters and lines, screenplay and attention to detail ... the movie misses being a masterpiece because of the lame ending ...could have been so much better if they had taken a stronger route than a judge talking about art...I was rooting for Ayya to come to the courtroom and put his POV forward ! The best lines were in the panel discussion - excellent movie nonetheless!
