Check the base price after deregulation (minus duties and taxes) It is according tp the USD/INR and Crude prices.But the final price at pump is based on the duties/taxes of central and state Govt Yes,I agree the Govt has not passe on the savings when prices went down | ||

Yes, excise duty is raised/altered based on how crude price and USD reacted.Govt has not passed on the savings.I agree The savings/income was used to build Govt treasury. Generally ,In India,when ever petrol price are reduced,do you see any benefits passed on to the consumers..like bus/train/air fares decreasing ? or cost of your vegetables/groceries going down ? But ,prices go upwards whenever even petrol prices are increased. I don't have Govt not passing on the benefits when fuel prices are decreased.I think it as type of indirect tax by people who never paid income tax in their life | ||

Maybe - the average was 90 USD. Between 2010 and 2014...the highest price was close to 120 USD and the lowest was close to 80 USD. At that time the retail price was a maximum of Rs.70 (in Delhi) Now a barrel of USD is 50 USD and the reatil price is still Rs.70/- The reason for this is the huge increase in excise duty? WHY is the excise duty so high? | ||

Officially 2013/2014- but even today is not completely de regularized - as the government still tweaks the price based on elections etc. And most important what steps did the government take to protect the common man...-why has the excise tax been increased so much in the last 4 years? Why was excise duty increased by 300% on Diesel after 2014? Why was excise duty on Petrol increased by 100+% after 2014? Why was the benefit not passed on? | ||

Yes. So - please also hold the Government accountable for the slide in the INR - USD value post 2015. in 2013, When it slid to around INR65 vs 1 USD, we were ruthless on the then government. But in all fairness - despite a huge Crude price, sliding INR - USD(which improved in early 2014), they did a great job in managing the Petrol prices. maybe tht was why MMS said - history will be kinder to me. | ||

Please also know the fact the petrol prices were subsidized/ regulated in India.Petrol prices till 2011 and Diesel prices till 2014.Basically Govt was paying the difference of market price and real cost, to oil companies (Google OIL POOL Deficit ) | ||

Yes. Deregulation happened in stages from 2002 onwards. That was the golden period (2002-summer) for Oil company stocks because of deregulation. Yes - INR value will affect the purchase price - but when the USD - INR value was around 60 - we blamed the government of that day - and now when it is depreciated to beyond 70 - should we not ask the same question? | ||
