 Nenunnaa naayanammaa! We (my wife and I) do not believe in these poojalu, nomulu, vagaira vagaira. Maa family (thara tharaalugaa) not supposed to do varalakshmi vratham anta. We just don't do any of those poojalu. But we are not naastikaas. We believe in God. And we completely, manasa, vaachaa karmanaa believe in "Maanava seve, Maadhava seva". Help others. Help those in need as much as you can. Be good to everyone. Don't indulge in corruption/anything illegal. Follow the law. Love the country. Shun extremism. Shun jingoism - That's our personal definition of praying to God. I (not my wife) believe in God as a supreme entity who has better things to do than to punish people for not doing some pooja right... or punish people for eating a certain animal etc. I believe we live in a self-aware, self-governing society that doesn't get much of an oversight from God. His job is done after the wheels are set in motion. Religion is each person's individual way of making sense of this grand entity. Peace. True believers of God do not do pooja. People who do not believe in God and do not understand God do pooja. Offering prayers to God is actually confining and belittling God. that said, Pooja may have some indirect utility to it...in terms of disciplining people...engaging the mind...diverting the mind from mundanity n boredom etc.. this way pooja is not for God in fact.. it is for the self who does it.. | ||

Pooja is a bhakti yoga practice - Bhakti Yoga says that GOD or Divine Shakti is very personal and Pooja is a way of connecting with the Divine. Pooja is short form for poorna jagruthi - that is complete awakening of the Divine - and as a part of yourself. Anga pooja is just one among the sequence of events in bhakti yoga pooja tradition. Typical pooja process has these steps. 1) Dhyanam 2) Avahanam 3) Asanam 4) Padyam 5) Arghyam 6) Achamaneeyam 7) Snanam 8) Vastram 9) Abharanam 10) Chandanam 11) Pushpam 12) Sugandham 13) Anga pooja 14) ashtottaram 15) Dhupam 16) Deepam 17) Naivedyam 18) Tambulam 19) Neerajanam 20) Mantra Pushpam 21) Atma Pradakshinam 22) Prardana Bhakti Yoga also says, that even though Divine shakti is everywhere, it is our heart that needs to be aligned with this shakti, the purpose of pooja is to project/acknowledge our individual ego is part of the divine shakti and offer ourselves to the shakti In a hotel room, and going out now, so it will be a while before i can check back again. I believe in God. But I don't believe in praising (ashtotharam etc are all to praise the god ani na yokka adi idi) and asking for things in return. Varalakshmi vratam ante maha chiraku.
