there is a longer play here. Some things that can be looked at in a general trade terms Think about this scenario You go from office to work on a highway it will take you 15 mins On local road it will take you 30 mins Now when there is no toll, no brainer.. take highway When there is 1 dollar a day toll..still take highway.. when there is 5 dollar a day.. you may take highway but the thought process creeps in When there is 10 dollar a day .. screw the highway.. take local road When your vehicle is banned on highway.. no brainer.. no choice !! The highway is American dollar as reserve currency.. the lever can be applied only as far as it makes sense!! If you go too far.. people will hit local roads!! It will come down to cost / benefit ratio!!.. what we gain vs what we lose That is the reason trade moved from barter to bilateral pacts to global partnerships !! If desperation forces Iran to go rupee route, it may create a local road for other non-desperate nations, when that highway becomes expensive. This time no European country supported US move on Iran and infact UN is also behind Iran in case of nuclear deal. Every body knows that Iran has not violated nuclear deal. Only US was pulled out of it. The agreement was also signed into place by European Union member, they have not pulled out of the deal. So, no way India has obligation to support this sanction. Because this is not an international law or sanction. US interest: is not nuclear deal. It's oil. By sanctioning Iran they wanted to increase oil rates like in 2008(above 100dollers). It will be a disastrous decission for world economy. India - Iran: Iran is the only country which has no relationship with terrorists in the south Asia.
