I am not belittling parents here. It is a fact of life. whatever happens today my order of priority is my kids, my wife, my parents, my in laws, my siblings, my wife's siblings... going forward when my kids become independent order of preference might change for kids and wife but rest all remains the same. Now if one of the partners dies, the emotional torture that the other partner goes through is immense. I think Indian parents somehow has this sense of ownership on their kids.
