Only the Seed Access Road is taking some shape and is not complete in terms of connectivity. CRDA/ADC say tht they has taken up atleast 8 grid roads and taking up all the other grid roads simultaneously- but these are only demarcated on ground and yet to be developed in full shape. CRDA says it is taking up the secondary infrastructure development of the Land Pooling Scheme areas (this would be the key to development of Amaravathi and bring in vibrancy since then the private sector would step in (who are waiting to crystalise the real estate market) â but not much action on ground â only planning is still going on. Yes, at last the Govt has woken up to the fact that unless core housing activity is taken up, Amaravathi would be another âWork Place-Institutional Townâ. It has undertaken housing for the Bureaucrats, LIG and some Affordable Housing in 3 places/Sectors. The educational institutions, that were given large chunks of lands â are yet to take up except for Vellore Institute that has not only built the min block but has also started operating the Academics from Amaravathi Campus. We are told that Amritha Institute is also operating in Amaravathi but through some rented buildingsâ¦The CBD Area which is a joint venture between Singapore Consortium and AP, is still in drawing stage and yet to be grounded â the issue of separate infrastructure for this sector is still being resolved. Ditto for the 2 Iconic Complexes in the Government Complex: viz., High Court and Assembly âthe designs of Foster being accepted, and Tenders for construction still to be floated. Thre4 is some progress on the city-level Sakhamuru Park â but one needs to prioritise on the building activities, parks and recreational spaces like Commercial Complexes can come later. The above are not enough to make Amaravathi a cogent force! Doing the infrastructure development is all fine â but the visibility for the common man is in the buildings/Structures⦠Infrastructure development can be done in stages and in phasesâ¦but it is the Buildings that give flesh and blood to a city. Going at the above rate, it may take another 5 years atleast for Amaravathi to come to some shape ( I am not talking about population moving to Amaravathi which is another issue). _________________________________________________ Your words will tell others what you think. Amaravati Remains A Non-Starter, Says BBC Notwithstanding the tall claims being made by Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu that his dream capital city of Amaravati is going to take a shape in the next few months, ground realities are entirely different, says a report that appeared in international news portal BBC. Even as municipal administration minister P Narayana says the construction of roads will pick up pace by December, Naiduâs media managers have gone to the extent of saying that the government would arrange âAmaravati Darshanâ for the people to go round and personally understand the progress of works on the capital. But the BBC report says the actual works on Amaravati, which is supposed to be 10 times bigger than Singapore in terms of its area, is still in nascent stage. âToday, nothing has been built on the vast amount of land procured from farmers. Even roads and basic infrastructure like drainage and power lines are yet to be put in place. Barring an interim government complex with a Legislative Assembly and a Secretariat, there is nothing,â the report said. The BBC attributes the delay to Naidu's personal obsession with grandiose designs and obsessions for historic legacy. It pointed out how Naidu went on changing the designers â from Japanâs Maki Associates to Foster and Partners, besides engaging film director S S Rajamouli. But faced with funds crunch, as the central assistance being pittance and the World Bank loan of Rs 3,800 crore not forthcoming, Naidu is trying to borrow funds left, right and centre in his desperate bid to give a shape to the capital city. The BBC report also pointed out the concerns of environmentalists that Amaravati is a flood prone area. âIt is an environmentally unsustainable project and a flood risk," the report says quoting an environmentalist.
