Also there are only limited tesla approved body shops for major damanges and they are packed... every time they order a part, it takes 3-4 weeks from Tesla and if they need another or replacement then another 3 weeks. r u serious bro? Lets say you hit at the REAR part of that multiple collision of your case, you may end up in paying for ALL passengers and all cars if you are at the end of the tail in that chain of collision, then the total liability may go beyond 500K and medical may go beyond 300K.(but this situation could be very rare. If you play around these 300/500 numbers on your policy, it may not be big difference. If you want your yeas also be covered like the above liability, take UI/UnderI coverage(or comprehensive). Medical coverage pays your out of pocket when you are the reason for the accident. Having said that, bit higher coverage with multiple vehicles/drivers(high probability of accident), I have chosen 300/500/300 :-)
Sure, it may make sense.. Even I had a Royal Enfield Bullet as a back up, but for the small $20/$30 extra per 6 months, I thought of its OK to take rental coverage. Also as you said, it doesnt cover beyond certain amount and certain time of rental.

I pay hefty $2500 per 6 months(4 cars 5 drivers), my motorcycle policy is separate though. BTW, side note but slightly related.. consider Term Life Insurance for your life as well.. dont wait till the above moment for your life :-) | ||

Wanted to share few things that i learned hard way after involving in a car accident few days ago someone crashed in to our car and couple of others car on a freeway. Total 4 cars got damaged badly. First, texas is a no fault state. That means cops don't clearly say who is at fault. They will give report but don't name the person at the fault. In NJ, cops report will have that info. Anyway, after 1 week of investigation, all insurance companies worked together agreed that other person in the car was at 100% fault BUT the story begins from there... Person who is at fault, doesn't have good coverage. He has basic coverage and it doesn't cover all the damages to multiple cars. Now i have been asked to file our claim on our policy but it will be noted as not at fault so premium doesn't go up. However, i don't have auto rental on our policy so we are not eligible to get rental for 3-4 months. Yes, it takes that long to get parts and fix it as per body shop guys. And they can't give rental on other person policy as he doesn't have enough coverage. I pay almost 1300 per month as lease payment. So for 3-4 months, almost 5000+ is waste of money as car is just sitting in the body shop and i keep paying for it. So it sucks... for someone else's fauly you pay the price. But thankfully, none of us got hurt even though all the airbags came out and major damage to front of the car lessons learned 1 - One should have auto rental on your policy. I didn't chose it even though it only costs few bucks. Will come in handy in such cases. 2 - Take GAP insurance if you are leasing the vehicle. Will be helpful if car gets totaled. 3 - Keep your coverage high like 100/300/100 so you can file under your own policy if required. If you have at least one car worth more than 100k then increase the coverage to even higher to cover entire cost of the car. 4 - If you live in no fault state, take pics of accident and contact info of witness etc. As you may have to defend your case since police don't judge. 5 - Better to recycle old cars and get any decent new or slightly old car with good safety ratings, side/curtain airbags etc so you will have relatively better chances of walking out... i don't think i will be typing it today if i was in my old lexus.
