Can you completely eradicate mental health issues ? Even if you can,Do you know how long it takes. It is a natural phenomenon and has implications on society etc. It will take decades to fix this (if you think we can fix it). But banning assualt weapons is man made and can be easily fixed. BTW, they should also consider adressing mental health issues as it will become an epidemic. But it is a long term solution and is a long shot. If this nut job did not have access to this gun, he would have still gone for this massacre. But much less people would be impacted. Even if 5 less people were killed yesterday, it is still life saved for these kids. | ||

As a follow up to the tragedy, we received an email update from our son's preschool that said their faculty is trained to handle "school shootings" and that they will be conducting a practice drill very soon. I love the school but should I be comforted by their assurance? My son is 4 years old. He's a cautious child by nature and knows there can be dangers in this world - but school is definitely not one of those. I don't know if that'll change after the 'school shooting practice drill'. The question is - is there anything this society can do to tell the children that we’ve got their backs? | ||

Looking at the way FBI, ATF are responding, there is no way they could have stopped. Unless someone complains, there is no one who is actively monitoring these social media accounts. They dont have a consolidated big data view that shows red flags based on data from youtube, insta, fb etc. The only way si stop them from getting guns. I dont understand why is it a big deal to ban sale of such automated weapons. You cannot stop from people from becoming sick (mental etc), you can stop people getting bad ideas. Its just impossible.
