First he has to renounce American citizenship.. surrender all American passports and only then he can start looking for his lost Indian citizenship.. not sure how they do it now.... one of my relatives did this long long ago in 90’s...should be ezpz... If he looks like Indian. Just go and apply for adhar card. . No one will Even ask for citizenship. After he gets adhar apply for passport . If not take my citizenship , I will give for free . | ||

Jeffa and EMC2 Thanks, apparently he needs to prove that he has spent 1 year in India in the last five years. (Not sure how long he has had the OCI. I am guessing probably all five years) Fairly straightforward. If there is no OCI, some 12 year residency rule is there it seems. You should have OCI (need to confirm for other than OCI like PIO etc) at least for 5 years which should include a year of Indian stay(not continuous), then you can apply for Indian Citizenship. If you are not from those controlled countries(like Pakistan etc), its very straight forward.
