you are missing many provisions outright prove the bill is a tax hike. capping SALT is a decision that should have been long time back. it is unfair to give advantage to people in states with income tax vs no income tax. now it is 10K every where you live. it was a correction. so lib bastions like CA, NY are being given sweet deal for raising their SALT all these years. Federal govt is not increasing your taxes. they are decreasing it. ask your state to decrease SALT. they are correcting an injustice.

With so many details missing, losing 5.5K in AGI value reduction and gaining 12K in standard deduction. Tax on 5.5K in 22% tax bracket is 1210. Tax on 12K in 22% bracket is 2640. Still gaining 1430. Still better off. This is not including 2K per child TAX CREDIT. You are leaving out too many details and assuming it just doesn't work in NY. Why don't you look at your numbers last year, use online calculators and let us know how much you will be paying more or less??? I will be saving at least 5K. | ||

if you go by standard deduction , you will see reduction . But that is not what will happen in NY state. Due to state and local taxes, majority itemize the deductions. When that goes away our AGI will increase. Tax rate reduction will not completely offset. When provisions start running out , that will make it worse. Without touching all the numbers, a 500k house in my county will have a property tax of about 15.5k . That's just property tax. When you cap SALT at 10k, around 3% reduction in tax rate will not really be that much. This is where other exemptions will start impacting. Now once the tax rates start going up(remember corporate cuts are permanent not individual cuts) that's when we start feeling direct impact. So my only point is selling this plan as middle-class tax cut is a lie. It is a classic trickle down economic strategy with a touch of populism. Most recent history showed that it doesn't work.
