Not world war II, it was world ware I, at that point of time, he was in SA, it was initially Ambulance Corps - and by the end combatants. Initially Gandhi was not fighting for complete independence, but for equal rights. He was convinced, and some say, british promised equal rights, if they supported the crown during the zulu war. Britain did not keep its promise. During the initial days, it was widely accepted in an armed conflict with india, British will be able to control india much more easily, using fractured factions. Eventually, Complete freedom, due to various reasons, took deep root in all indians. By world war II, Gandhi or India did not send army to support british. Instead Quit India movement was in full force then. | ||

Ahimsa is a debatable concept, although I am pro-Ahimsa. To me 100 marks is for the way he unified India, no one could ever do that, before him, and even after him. He brought everyone into the mould of being a part of a bigger entity. Until he came into picture, revolts were periodic, regional and class based. He was the one who truly moved the masses, all castes, all creeds, all religions for the cause. | ||

So both Nehru and Edwina, were already known to be flirtatious in nature, and thus the speculation about the levels of their relationship. Lady Mountbatten spent about 8 months in Delhi, and that was the only time they were together, physically, but their correspondence lasted till Lady Edwina's death.

ofcourse - i am not saying its not possible. but given what was happening during those days, my opinion there was not much to it ani. I strongly believe that Nehru is Machiavellian in nature, a shrewd politician who knew how to play his cards. Gandhiji's ideologies and Nehru's ideologies never matched, infact in Gandhiji lived longer, he would have been a bigger obstable to "Modern Outlook" of Nehru. Even in a setting where he should have likely been overlooked - by INC, he always maintained his control. There were many documented conflicts between Gandhi and other top INC leaders but he seemed to have overcome all of those. Even in the case of Edwina, i feel it was more political than anything else ani naa feeling. | ||

hmmm... there were always rumours but nothing substantial that would suggest what kind of relationship it was.... Lets see.... Mountbatten came in as viceroy in the year 1947, Nehru but then was in his late 50s, i think 58?. Lady Mountbatten, i believe was in her late 40s. A relationship between people in that age, most likely would have been platonic, even if there was romance, i suspect it was anything sexual in nature. Nehru and Shradda maata, were known to be in a relationship in and around 1948, and there were rumours(although this time with abit of documented evidence), that shradda maata was a plant by hindu mahasabha to change Nehru's views on secularism and tilt his policies to be more hindu friendly.
