I think people are diverting main issues...coal power plants and industries around delhi are polluting it.. Cow belt is a party now? Do you even read what you write. - Joker Kejrival has not bought a single bus since he joined. Over the past 5 years the no. of buses in Delhi went down from 5800 to 3800. Bangalore with a significantly lower population has a fleet of 6500. Kejriwal got his priorities all warped up. Instead of asking for more control (over law and order etc). he should atleast deliver on things which are totally under his control like transport. - Amarinder Singh is conveniently passing the buck, saying Centre shoulld intervene - BJP is busy celebrating the grand success of demonetisation. Chasing silly low hanging fruit like Diwali firecrackers satisfies consciences - Diwali only causes a 10% spike for 3 hours on one day during a 120 day winter. Construction dust and vehicles are also an issue. Vehicles can't be controlled overnight, but there needs to be a clampdown. Delhi bstards are addicted to cars, every family drives 2-3 cars. Construction dust does not contribute much to PM2.5 which is more dangerous, it is more in the PM 10 range. | ||

How do we solve the problem of paddy stubble being burnt? One, find out why the paddy stubble is still being burnt. Identify the reasons why farmers still prefer to burn the stubble rather than transporting them to a power plant. Two, make it more economical for farmers to transport the stubble. This can be done by opening more facilities to dispose of them, improving connectivity, and reducing overheads through minor subsidies or incentives. Three, penalise farmers who burn the stubble. The Amarinder Singh government in Punjab needs to take this seriously as a bulk of the crop stubble being burnt is from Punjab. Four, rope in the private sector to set up more power plants to dispose of the crop stubble. A privately owned entity will certainly put in more effort to collect crop stubble as a raw material than a government body. | ||

so thats the main reason for Pollution in Delhi? From what I have read form multiple resources - Road Dust, Industrial exposure are the main contributors. Road Dust was about 45% of the contributor Industrial at 30 % vehicles contribute around 10% then comes the biomass burning around delhi - about 7% | ||

Main source of smog is the surrounding industries and burning of fossil fuels right..but long back i read somewhere that they have cut down them rapidly..i think still they are deciding whether it is smog or fog.. looking at the 999 scale meter looks like kejriwals's odd-even rule didn't even impact a single percent on the delhi's pollution.. | ||

I stay in Gurgaon btw. Temperatures now are 15-20 degrees only. And if it was fog, it would not show the PM 10/2.5 at 999 levels. In Delhi there are added issues of construction dust, high vehicular population etc. Blaming it on the winter is a cop-out, most cities in China are colder than Delhi. Today Delhi pollution was 10 times that of Beijing, which was once the most polluted city in the world. | ||

Parts of Delhi are beyond the scale which measures only 3 digits. All through the day, most of Delhi was at a reading of 999. We are officially on "you are screwed" zone. At the same time, just to compare - Chennai was 81, Hyderabad was 85, Bangalore was 61. All schools have been declared off for the next few days. F*ckall city. Most of the pollution is caused by farmers in Punjab, Haryana and UP who burn the stubble left on the ground after the first crop which is paddy to be ready for the second crop. They claim that they can't afford the labour cost to get the stubble out of the ground. ••••••••, Punjab and Haryana farmers are among the richest in India. They want to be paid now for not poisoning us. Paddy intensive states in the South don't burn their fields. Illiterate, spoilt cow belt buggers doing this are nothing short of terrorists. |
