Category 5 storm "Hurricane Irma" :

Dear Friends:

As you are already aware a powerful Category 5 storm "Hurricane Irma" is currently moving through the Caribbean and progressing into mainland Florida. Governor Rick Scott and Senator Bill Nelson and related officials say that they will force mass evacuations and suggest that residents should not wait around once the order is given. The projection models show that the heavily populated East Coast will likely be the most effected and the storm could near or pass over Miami on Sunday. Following orders is extremely important to avoid a gridlock and being stranded on highways and inner roads without proper access to remediation measures. Certain models also project that the west coast and Georgia/Carolinas could also be in the in the path for passage or landfall. According to CNN, Monroe County (Florida Keys) has already ordered mandatory evacuations and Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) issued a mandatory evacuation Wednesday for areas east of Federal Highway. It is to be expected that other parts of eastern coast could also see similar evacuations soon, depending on the path of the hurricane.

The leadership of TANA is aggressively talking to the Telugu community in the area through the local leadership to ascertain that safety and also provide guidance on how to prepare and react to the situation and provide assistance immediately after the event. We will continue to watch the situation as it unfolds and are already in preparations to provide Emergency Assistance as and when necessary. If you would also like to contribute to the effort by making a donation please do so at www.tana.org/donate (Choose "Other" and write in Hurricane IRMA).

The following volunteers from the TANA Leadership (in addition to the TEAM Square Volunteers in the area) will be the points of contact for Telugu Community to reach out for information and requests for assistance:

Srinivas Jarugula |Orlando, FL | Tel: 407-267-7595
Kasturi Avula | Miami, FL | Tel: 954-903-8662
Chalapathi Choppa | Miami, FL | Tel: 954-415-3379
Srinivas Patcha| Jacksonville, FL| Tel: 904-400-0558
Venkat Chekuri |Tampa, FL| Tel: 703-889-0325

As always, you can contact me directly at any time via email at president@tana.org or via telephone at 703-731-8367 for ensuring immediate and proper communication and coordination.

Attached herewith, is guidance on "How to Prepare an Emergency Kit" for Hurricane Irma and a checklist to construct a "Survival Kit" in case the of prolonged difficulties. At this time, we strongly suggest that you keep following the news and in print and electronic media and maintain situational awareness and also prepare your Emergency/Survival Kit in advance and reach out to TANA for additional information or specific needs that are required to help you and your family remain safe and secure.

HURRICANE IRMA
Emergency Kit (Short Term) /Survival Kit (Long Term)

Water: First and foremost, store at least three gallons of water per person — enough to last each three days. If you think you'll be cut off longer, add an extra gallon per person per day.

Cash: Banks and ATMs could shut down. Power outages render debit and credit cards useless.

Documents: Keep copies of key documents in a waterproof, easy-to-carry container. These include identification such as passports and Social Security cards as well as insurance policies and bank account records.

Medications: Keep a one-week supply of prescription medications plus any over-the-counter items like pain relievers and antacids.

Food: Lay in a three-day supply of canned foods and dry mixes — nothing that needs refrigeration. Avoid thirst-inducing foods, and remember the dietary needs of those around you, including infants (ready-to-feed formula) and pets. Secure a hand-operated can opener.

Sanitation: Think moist towelettes, garbage bags and diapers. Consider paper goods such as plates and cups as well as plastic utensils.

Backup phone batteries: Extra batteries for your devices, also called portable power banks, could prove essential in a power outage. Here's how to prep your smartphone for disasters.

Additional items: Flashlights with spare batteries, blankets, a first aid kid and NOAA weather radios are all recommended.
FEMA offers an extensive printable checklist for all-purpose emergency supply kits, too.
The agency also recommends tailoring supplies to whether you plan to evacuate or stay put at home, and to sign up for local alerts (just Google your city or country name plus "alerts"). Food and Water: Stock a 3-day supply for each family member including pets. Store in sealed, unbreakable containers.
• Bottled Water - At least 1 gallon daily per person for 3 to 7 days
• Water Purification Tablets -
• Non-Perishable Foods - At least enough for 3 to 7 days.

• Baby Food and Baby Formula

• Powdered or Canned Evaporated Milk
