What to do Baahubali 2 is an experience that should be enjoyed on the big screen. While the movie is overall good in most of departments, we do wish Rajamouli could have given the movie a befitting conclusion. Still, I would recommend the movie for Prabhas and Anushka Shettyâs powerful performances and itâs epic grandeur. At least based on my own spot-poll among work-mates, what's more significant is that people actually do not remember details of 'Baahubali: The Beginning' (2015), this film's prequel. Which is fair. Incidentally it was about a young man Shivudu (Prabhas: majestic in the first part, as in the second), who enters the mythical kingdom of Mahishmati, to realise he has a history with the place, and practically everyone recognises him to be Mahendra, the lookalike son/heir of Amarendra Baahubali, chief claimant to the crown, who was supposedly slain by his own loyal bodyguard Kattappa (Sathyaraj). Mahishmati is currently ruled by Bhalladev (Rana Daggubati), a tyrant who's deviously risen to the top, and who believes in looting public money, to build a massive statue. If you can sense a modern analogy, well, sub-text lies in the eyes of the ticket-holder. This film is about the rise and fall of the father Amarendra Baahubali. Did you really need to jog your memory though? No. Like a fine-dine restaurant over a franchise, 'Baahubali 2' is, firstly, a stand-alone film. The Conclusion doesn't preclude the audience that hasn't caught The Beginning. It is in fact a much, much better movie, and one rarely says this about sequels. What has drawn you into the theatre already is the action, special effects, and scale of productionâall of which was a given, and there is no disappointment on that front at all. For an Indian movie, you're equally stunned into absolute disbelief. But this film also actually ends up telling a more well rounded story, encompassing both humourâmainly between Baahubali, and Kattappaâand romance, even if an unlikely one, between Baahubali, the designated king pretending to be serf, and Devasena (hardly a 'Helen of Troy', sadly), the princess of a relatively smaller kingdom. It is an epic all right (scripted by the skillful KV Vijayendra Prasad, who incidentally wrote Baahubali in the same year as Salman Khan's 'Bajrani Bhaijaan'). Like all epicsâ right from pre-historic mythologies (Greek, Indian, Roman)âthere is the terrible villain, and an impossibly righteous hero. The conflict at the centre of this battle for power concerns 'jar and joru', or wealth, and woman, weaving in basic human emotions like jealousy, envy, greed, lust, and pride, that connects with everyone, regardless of where you're from. And hence a film from Hyderabad that's rightly captured the imagination of the entire country, with audiences, for once, sitting and looking up in sheer awe, clapping at the right moments, hooting excitedly. Frankly I can't recall the last time I pre-booked an 8.10 am first row, first day, first show, in a completely packed hall. Of late, Indian cinema has been more about films that should ideally be watched online, and if it's a franchise, even better. On a television series now on platforms like Netflix, you don't even have to wait weeks or months to catch all the episodes. What Baahubali does is show the future of Indian big-screen cinema, if it has to survive the onslaught of Hollywood, or move beyond Rajini, Khans, Kapoor, and Kumar, to begin with. The manager in my theatre says he plans to start Saturday shows, 6.30 am onwards. I can't think of a better way to start your day. The excitement is totally worth it. | ||

Ithaniki first part ye waste anipinchindhi le While the world sits up in anticipation of S S Rajamouliâs ambitious, 160 odd crore period â drama, itâs got to be said that Baahubali is a film of queer contradictions. Technically, it blasts open the hypotheses of cinema and goes where few have attained earlier. There is enough here that will excite and beatify fans. But thereâs also a lot in it that exacerbates normal crowd. For a visually game-changing film, Rajamouli opts for a folklore and love story that are way too common and at times, even moth-eaten. Thereâs an overall lack of feelings in Baahubali. With that said, maybe a duology is just too much to ask of âBaahubaliâ, and hopefully Baahubali â the conclusion will be more superior to the part one. 'Baahubali 2' Review: A fantastic, must-watch sequel with strong characters and an intriguing plot Rajamouli not only gives us a worthy second film, he knocks it out of the park. Sowmya Rajendran Friday, April 28, 2017 - 12:20 Share @Facebook Share @twitter Share @Email Share @google+ Share @reddit After the national anthem was played in the theatre in which I watched Baahubali: The Conclusion, a man shouted "Bharath Mata ki Jai". As the crowd echoed him, another shouted "Jai Mahismati!" and the response was just as loud. A small inkling of the immersive universe that SS Rajamouli has managed to create with the Baahubali series. Sequels are always hard to pull off, especially when the first film has an unimaginable cult following like Baahubali does. But Rajamouli not only gives us a worthy sequel, he knocks it out of the park. We've already met these characters, powerful people with powerful emotions. The just Sivagami (Ramya Krishnan) who does not differentiate between the baby who took root in her womb and the one who held her finger in an iron grasp. Bijjaladeva (Nasser), her husband, denied his legacy because of his disability, frustrated by his wife's authority. Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubatti), their son, forever in the shadow of his more popular cousin, jealousy burning behind his outwardly calm eyes. Baahubali (Prabhas), the majestic, the beloved of his people and every bit a legendary hero that an epic calls for. Then there's Devasena (Anushka Shetty), finally a female character who reminds one of Draupadi in her pride, rage, and thirst for vengeance. In the first film, we see her chained, her face leathery from the assault of the elements, clad in a torn saree with only revenge in her mind. In the second, she comes to us as Amarendra's love, the woman he'd do anything for. And what a fantastic romance Rajamouli works up! There's none of the cringe-worthy rapey sequences that led to love blossoming between Shivudu (Prabhas) and the woman warrior Avantika (Tamannaah) in the first film. Instead we get a hero and a heroine who share crackling chemistry and mutual respect (really, when was the last time you saw an Indian film in which a hero is willing to disobey mummyji?). When the plank she is to step on to get into a boat falls, Amarendra helps her. Without wasting a moment, Devasena steps on his broad shoulders, the shoulders of the soon to be crowned king, and into the boat, her head held high. Rajamouli's script is a winner because he gives us these characters we grow to love without merely pitting them against each other like gladiators. There is, of course, plenty of fighting and bloodshed, but the reason we care about who is dying and who is winning is the strong character arcs that we're given to experience. Kattappa, perhaps the most loved character from the first film after Baahubali himself, is more than just a slave to the throne. Here, we see him joking around, playing Amarendra's sidekick and occasional cupid. Why does Kattappa kill him then? I've just watched a film about the pain of betrayals and I will not betray my readers by revealing the answer. But I can say that Rajamouli is confident about his characters and keeps them true to their nature without complicating the storyline unnecessarily. The answer might be disappointing to some, but I bought it. Prabhas turns into Amarendra with so much conviction that you cannot help but root for him. Virtuous heroes are passe in cinema these days - we want more shades to a character, we want a bad boy within the good. However, even though Amarendra is full of goodness, he is not a boring character by any stretch of imagination. Prabhas is splendid whether he's romancing Devasena or wielding a sword to kill an enemy. He's grown so comfortable in the skin of Baahubali that it's difficult to believe that he's from this era. Perhaps that sounds too praise-y, but he succeeds so well in getting you to suspend your disbelief and watch open-mouthed as he performs superhuman deeds, epic style. As Amarendra, he's several notches above Shivudu, who is still not quite the man his father was. Though played by the same actor, the two characters emerge with distinction. And move over the Hrithik Roshans of Bollywood, the competition is clearly between Rana Dagubatti's sculpted form and Prabhas's. Rana fires up an effective performance, although I did wish that we could have seen more of him. Avantika (Tamannaah) barely exists in the second film but Sivagami and Devasena get enough screen time to keep the balance. Needless to say, Ramya Krishnan holds her own and proves why she's the only actor who could have played the complex Sivagami. Given the budget and time constraints, the VFX in Baahubali: The Conclusion is pretty great. There are a few scenes where you do feel that some fine-tuning could have been done - particularly towards the end, but that's a minor gripe. The fight scenes are superbly choreographed and you buy into the fantasy completely - at least, the audience I was watching the film with couldn't stop screaming for every blow that the mighty Baahubali landed on his enemies. MM Keeravani's background score complements the pace of the film, whipping up emotions and keeping up the fever pitch. The songs appear organically and despite the film's length, you don't get restless because of the visual spectacle in front of you. And no, there are no "item" numbers in this one unlike the first film. Indeed, Rajamouli seems to have set aside what many filmmakers call "commercial compulsions" and made a film that he wanted to make, knowing that the audience was with him. Taran Adarsh Movie Review: Baahubali 2 â The Conclusion Review by Taran Adarsh 28 April 2017 12:47 pm IST 4.5 Bahubali 2 The Conclusion (4)-5 Everyone's curious to know the answer to this question: Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? We can guesstimate and offer varied versions and theories, but looking back, I don't think the moviegoers had an inkling of how the master storyteller, S.S. Rajamouli, would culminate the first installment of the epic saga BAAHUBALI and how the terrific cliffhanger would eventually become the talking point. I am also sure, Rajamouli must've not foreseen that the question -- Kattappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara? -- would set off thesis, blogs and memes by movie aficionados across the globe. As a matter of fact, Baahubali, Bhallala Deva and Kattappa -- the iconic characters -- have captured the imagination of the movie-going audience like no film characters in the recent past. Cut to the present... The wait is finally over! BAAHUBALI-2 hits the marquee today. The excitement is palpable. There's tremendous curiosity to witness, scrutinize, analyze and dissect the concluding installment of the path-breaking film. Resultantly, the expectations -- much like the canvas of the film -- are monumental. Does BAAHUBALI-2 live up to those lofty expectations? Is the second part superior than the predecessor? With unprecedented hype surrounding the keenly-anticipated movie, the inescapable question is, will BAAHUBALI-2 set new benchmarks as a film and also at the BO? Let me come to the point right away. BAAHUBALI-2 is a joyride that you wish never ends. I haven't enjoyed any entertainer as much as I enjoyed this one. As a movie buff, I have followed Rajamouli's body of work in Telugu films and admired his prowess as a storyteller. After BAAHUBALI-2, it's not just admiration, but respect and reverence as well. It wouldn't be erroneous to state that you haven't watched something like this on the Hindi screen ever. Also, as a cinematic experience, BAAHUBALI-2 takes gigantic strides, taking Indian cinema notches higher⦠over and above the standards set by several skilled raconteurs in the past. It requires foresight, guts, vision and of course, the financial muscle to bring to life a lavish spectacle on the giant screen. And Rajamouli uses his strengths and opportunities to accomplish what a majority of storytellers can only talk about or dream of. Let me add, BAAHUBALI-2 is not merely a visually enchanting experience, but also a well-structured film that engulfs you into its world. BAAHUBALI-2 takes you back to the kingdom of Mahishmati and brings to fore the reason that triggered off the feud between Baahubali [Prabhas] and Bhallala Deva [Rana Daggubati]. It's the fight to the finish in the concluding part. Will Shiva, the son of Baahubali, succeed against the tyrannical and treacherous Bhallala Deva? Will he regain authority of the kingdom that was snatched from his family by Bhallala Deva? Why did Bhallala Deva keep Devasena [Anushka Shetty] captive all these years? Finally, the pertinent question: Why did Kattappa [Sathyaraj] eliminate Baahubali? Roll out the red carpet... Blow the conch shells... Beat the drums... It's time to celebrate and I will tell you why! On paper, the plot may seem inspired by history, mythology and comic books that we have read in our growing up years. But scratch the exterior and you realize, Rajamouli belts out an altogether new story that rests on the age-old adage, good triumphs eventually. Bahubali 2 The Conclusion (2) Rajamouli carries a huge burden on his shoulders: He knows that comparisons between the two parts of BAAHUBALI are inevitable. The concluding installment has to be bigger [canvas, VFX] and better [entertainment quotient] than the first part. It's a daunting challenge actually. And BAAHUBALI-2 delivers and how! BAAHUBALI-2 is seeped in Indian ethos [story: K.V. Vijayendra Prasad], while the drama is garnished with several awe-inspiring sequences and jaw-dropping visuals. The screenwriting vacillates between romance, high-voltage drama, tension-filled confrontations and luminously filmed and brilliantly crafted action sequences, resulting in a movie-going experience that doesn't insult your intelligence. The content is desi, while the packaging has an international feel. Okay, I am *not* a spoilsport to reveal the answer to the pertinent question: Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? However, I wish to add, the entire track is simply brilliant! There's no doubt that BAAHUBALI-2 is Rajamouli's most accomplished effort to date. His choice of the subject over the years has been diverse, but BAAHUBALI-2 is truly the big ticket entertainer that leaves you awestruck by its powerful storytelling and meticulous detailing. Any deterrent? The Hindi soundtrack could've been better, but that's a tiny hiccup. Also, the editing could've been sharper at places. The breathtaking, larger-than-life frames [DoP: K.K. Senthil Kumar], grandiose and opulent production design [Sabu Cyril] and stunning visual effects impart sheen and sparkle. The action portions provide ample exhilarating moments and I must add, it commands repeat viewing. BAAHUBALI-2 is powered by strong performances from the skilled cast. Having said that, the eyes are on the protagonist and antagonist all the while. You can sense the tension when the two gladiators clash and collide. Prabhas is electrifying and gives the two characters the authority that they deserve. The undeniable presence and winsome act adds weight to the magnum opus. Rana is menacing, ferocious and nails his part with precision. His physical transformation -- a prerequisite for the character -- makes him look powerful and unshakable. Anushka Shetty invests purity, valor and strength into her character and emerges triumphant. Tamannaah gets limited scope this time. Ramya Krishnan looks aristocratic and shines as the queen mother Sivagami. Sathyaraj uses his piercing eyes to convey intensity and owns every sequence he's in. Nassar is ruthlessly manipulative and pitches in a tremendous act. The actor enacting the part of Kumar is unmistakably earnest. On the whole, the BAAHUBALI franchise has successfully created its own world and some incredible characters that are sure to stay with you for a long, long time. Talking specifically of BAAHUBALI-2, it's a feast for moviegoers and has the trappings to make all generations its fan. The film is sure to vanquish previous BO records and rewrite the rules of the game. It shouldn't come as a surprise if it turns out to be the biggest grosser of Indian cinema. East, West, North, South...
