take care guevara...you need to wait till the adjuster comes back with the damage estimate...even if the damage estimate comes to around 60-70% of the car's value, they will total it which will be good for you...total avvakapothe they will get it repaired...after repair sell it off if you are still doubtful...ofcourse u will lose some money while selling...and this depreciation amount while selling can also be claimed from the insurance because the car's value came down due to accident... insurance claiming kooda it works in different ways...did u call the Pilot's insurance(who hit you)?...or did you call your insurance? if you called your insurance, they will cover your car first as a collision where you have to pay your deductible and then they recover this money from the Pilot's insurance...once they recover, they will give a check to you for the deductible amount you paid...if you called the Pilot's insurance, then they will cover everything, no deductible out of your pocket... the depreciation amount claim need to go separately when you are selling the car... | ||

Most likely totaling would happen. Dont accept the fixes. If the repairs cost is above 80% of the car market value, it would be total. Dont worry about initial estimate by the insurance. Actual mechanic estimate would add up at least 40% above the insurance appraisal. few months back 2013 accord exl (46K miles) was kissed on rear by a desi babe(of 45 years or more) with her sweet new Prius lips, air bags deployed. Initial insurance appraisal with 8K but final was 18K and totaled :-) car motham kothagaa kanipistondi but totaled as the repair final cost is way above 80% of the market value. Be ready to plan a new car. On the other hand, you are not guaranteed that you would get all of your car value. It depends on the at fault driver coverage. If she/he got less, you are virtually licked.. since you need to go behind them personally(but your un/under insured coverage may help you something, check your policy). | ||

Glad everyone is safe I am not sure which insurance you have, but this is how Gap insurance works in my policy Let's say you owe 15k and the insurance appraises your vehicle at 10k then you have a gap of 5k if you took gap insurance, progressive will cover upto 25% of the appraisal value so it comes down to 10k + (10k *0.25) = 112.5k, you will still be on hook for remaining 2.5 Other insurances might differ, since your car is rear ended the other might be liable for damages I am sure you will be covered | ||
