Babai..By getting a good camera that has a lot of options and learn how to use them as opposed to use it in Auto mode, you can make wonders. Even a basic DSLR, play with the manual settings, you can do lot of wonders. I bought a D50 long long ago and used it in Auto mode for about 4 years and one day, i decided to play with various modes and manual settings, using filters, i can see the difference. You need to know these settings (knowledge) added with your interest and a good camera, there is a lot you can achieve. Oka pali calling cheyyu...talking cheddam. Its been a while | ||

Thanks annai...AF doesn't work for night sky photography. Everything is manual..So, the way focus works is: 1.) Turn your mode to Manual 2.) Using view finder/live view, try to spot a star or light source ( min 100m away)..If you are going with a partner, ask him/her to go 100m away and light up a bulb or anything that illuminates.. 3.) Adjust your focus ring such that the light source looks like a spot. If you are focussing through live view, you can magnify 3x, 4x times to see the star/light source clearly and then adjust your focus..BUT do not zoom your lens to get near the light source... 4.) Put a gaffer tape (leaves no residue on your lens) on the focus ring and do not touch it further for rest of the night. Few other suggest just to focus your lens to infinity and you are all set (infinity symbol untadi lens focus ring meedha..just adjust to that mark)..But this doesn't always work.. Exceptions include my lens (14-24mm f/2.8) where when set to infinity the stars looks like perfect spots. But I always manually focus and then put tape on it. Northern hemisphere lo unnavallaki, milky way CORE will not be visible during Nov - Feb mid..To the naked eye, it looks like a hazy cloud..The optical features in the lens and camera can capture more light than our eyes...hence the effect.. | ||

thank you Starc bro..D750 is an incredible piece from Nikon..Great low light camera..The key here is long exposure.. You should use either 500 or 600 rule..i.e. 500/focal length. In my case, focal length was 14 mm so it is=~36 sec. If you go beyond this, stars will appear as trails and not as perfect spots because earth is rotating..I subtracted additional 6 seconds to shoot it at 30 sec because D750 can handle high ISOs..I bumped up ISO and decreased shutter speed. Finally, all lenses have an effect called COMA where stars appear as blobs rather than spots..Nikon 14-24mm is the best lens available in the market today..Even Canon users use this lens for their bodies.. 50mm tho sarigga light capture cheyaleru...You can rent a lens from borrowlenses.com and try out this lens and if you like it, you can buy.. | ||

I took this photograph during our trip to the Canadian Rockies in Aug – Sep 2016. The flare on the left is from the Iridium satellite and you can also spot couple of meteors.
