You cannot really bring manufacturing job. The major advantage of importing is importing material. You import iPhone, you import hell lot of material along with it. You avoid all processing of material before making product inside the country. it cost a lot and to process the material and make products. The environment would have the big impact. There is no such thing as any president protecting manufacturing jobs or for that matter jobs of any particular sector. From time immemorial, politicians keep repeating the same shit. Imagine how the world would be if they were actually successful in protecting the 50% agricultural jobs in the 19th/20th centuries. Or if they were successful in protecting horse carriage related jobs when automobiles were invented. If any job requires state protection, it almost always means huge wastage of potential, money and resources. There are visible losses, but there are a lot more invisible losses - like what could have been if the jobs were not forcefully protected. For example high tech automation and the development of entire unknown new industries, etc would be halted by wasteful protectionism.
