I don't think this is any new Back in late 90's (when pertrol charges were in Rs 40's)they used to charge Rs 3+Rs (for phone charge to connect bank for authorization) The reason is the credit card processors used to charge upto 2% and petrol bunk operators were getting only Rs 1 commission per liter of petrol Some credit card issues used to reimburse if the payment was processed through their terminal | ||

Surcharge is nothing but an extra charge over and above the actual cost of the product when you buy petrol by way of swiping the credit card. Mostly all the credit card companies levy 2.5% surcharge when you swipe your card at the petrol pumps. So as a privilege some credit companies like HSBC, SBI, HDC, ICICI credit back these surcharge back to you in your account if you fuel it for a certain amount as decided by the respective companies. Hence you need to pay only the purchase cost to the credit card company. For e.g. If you buy petrol worth Rs. 500 with credit card then this 2.5% surcharge is waived and you need to pay only Rs. 500 to them. | ||

Being Sunday we were told that bank will open at 9:30 am. There was a notice also posted to that effect. Around 9:15 a.m, tokens with sequence number was distributed to the people in line. All senior citizens were also given tokens; but asked to come inside and made to sit in Manager room. At 9:30 a.m. sharp first lot of people were taken inside. People were allowed to use the restrooms inside the bank. Water was made available inside for drinking. To top it all at 9:30 a.m. also comes a guy with tea and cups along with the staff of the bank. On behalf of the bank, any one who wanted was given tea. Cups were small so refill at will was allowed. Everything was there except TV Cameras and Rahul Gandhi. However there were two bank personnel outside replying to customers' questions, helping them with form filling. Many people had come with ID card but not photocopies. There was one person who collected the ID and gave photocopy to the customers. I ask the media people only one question: good that you show the trouble people go through; but once in a while also show this also. I was out at 10:15 a.m. with cash. On coming out, came to know the two bank staff outside was a lady who was Regional Manager and the other the Branch Manager.
