This is one such stories ] Someone from Bellevue, WA writes: I have been out of work for over two years. I used to work in IT, mostly contracting at Microsoft. I had a baby two years ago, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems one and a half years ago. I graduated with honors from an accredited respectable US college. I have tried extremely hard to get a job in IT, but the only jobs I have found pay 20.00 per hour less than what I made BEFORE I got my bachelor’s degree! The “shortage of skilled US workers” is a lie. I live 1 mile from Microsoft’s main campus. I am the sole financial supporter of my toddler. I have borrowed approximately 100K to survive. We are on welfare. I get food and diapers from charities. Soon I will run out of the ability to borrow money. Then, my toddler and I will need to move into the garage and rent out bedrooms to foreign workers to be able to pay the mortgage. It will be easy to rent our home to foreigners because the place where we live (close to Microsoft) is flooded with foreign workers. ALL American fare restaurants in my area have closed and been replaced with Indian and Asian fare. All Indians buy new vehicles. My truck is 16 years old, and I can’t afford to replace it. I have met, worked with, and gotten to know many Indian’s over the past 10 years. I enjoy learning about their culture and value some of those friendships. However, I can honestly say that most of the Indian’s I have met lie about their education and work experience. I have looked up past Indian co-workers on LinkedIn and they lie about their past titles and job descriptions. This puts me in a very difficult situation. I am an ethical person. Yet, in order for me to compete in the job market, I am going to have to lie about my experience. If I don’t, I will lose my house this year. I desperately need things to change.
