Next, keep the reciver as is, but get dedicated 2 or 3 channel amp for fronts. You will use pre-outs from receiver to amp to speakers. Makes big difference.

Next, I went with client/server route.

Ordered a server, which looks similar to HTPC, but with server-mobo, server-processor which is low-powered. Runs on Windows Server OS. Added bunch of HDDs for storage. Set it up in basement.

Bought a mini-pc (Intel NUC to be precise) for each TV. This pc is tiny like size of Apple TV, Roku etc. Light-weight mobile processor, SSD and has no fan. Entirely solid-state, no moving parts, no noise, cool as cucumber.

Connected mini-pc to A/V receiver via HDMI. All my media is available from server in the network. Plus, server streams media to consoles/streamers like xbox/ps4/fire tv/bluray players.

Prastutaniki life is happy.

thanks vunkul, this is what I am shooting for...did you build the server or buy a stock one?

oka look esa... baagundi. koncham expensive though. few comments:

I started with HTPC route, like a decade ago. Bought a case, mobo, processor, memory and had it setup by someone. Next, HDDs add chesi, OS installation chesukunna. Upgraded almost every component over the time.

After few years, there is fan noise from processor-fan, powersupply-fan, case-fan. I had enough ventilation, but can't reduce the noise. Having a noisy machine in living room is disturbing and couldn't live with it. Now, it is retired into basement. Haven't turned on in couple of years.

No matter, how good the config. is, it is bound to make noise. In fact, bigger the processor/HDD, more sound it is going to make.

next em chesanante...
