I never see any Telugu movie without going through reviews and public word of mouth - Bahubali being an exception of course. The only Telugu movies i see are some low budget non-star films like Bhale Manchi Roju, Nenu Sailaja etc. I am more than happy to know all these big budget, star kids movies flopping. In fact, apart from the buyers, nobody loses in this business. Our industry is made up of three points of a triangle - director, hero and producer, no one else matters. Most of our directors are illiterate dolts who have rarely read a book, either for education or for entertainment. They are very often college dropouts, that is if they dropped in in the first place. Even if they have not acquired the requisite learning, they should surround themselves with creative talents who can spur them on - like Rajamouli and his family. They neither understand plotting, character development, narrative styles or techniques, atmosphere building, nothing. They may not have the right understanding of society, economy, political forces, etc to make their stories more rooted and compelling to watch. To assume that they have the ability to tell a story that engrosses anyone is utterly foolish, for which the producer has to take the blame. Most of the time, this animal would have earned his money from some illegitimate sources, so i could not care two hoots if he loses his money. And as for our heros, they are even worse than the directors in their ability to appreciate art and culture, discriminate between good and bad screenplays. There is no way movies like SGS or Brahmotsavam would have been made if the actors had this ability to self critique or even read and visualise a story. If Mahesh really bypassed 24 that shows how bad his screenplay judging skills are. One can argue that hits or flops are purely the director's domain but that is a silly excuse. And all these hits or flops can't be written off, saying that it is all part of the game. Heros who give only 2-3 hits in a decade - whether it is PK or Mahesh, how can they be even considered big stars. In Hindi, a star loses his perch if he goes for 2 years without a hit - like where Ranbir Kapoor is now for instance. In Method Acting, there is a teaching that the actor must never condescend to the character. Similarly in movie watching, the audience should never condescend to the director. If i feel that i can do better, write better or narrate better than what is happening on the screen, you lost the game. Unfortunately most of the Telugu film directors and actors are such low rent dumbos, i feel that wasting my time and money on them is just horrendous. In a nutshell, i am getting out the popcorn and having fun at seeing all these disasters. |
