This theory was the Correct theory/story! The main responsibility of GURU is not only to teach students but also discover their intentions to use such skills under which/what circumstance. Asthram's are boon's and they are very powerful. Asthram's are to be earned and they are given to the people who are going to be using them wisely and only in dire circumstances. The skill set and asthram's should be used when needed not use them just because you have them. Ekalavya does not have control on his mind more over his temperament takes over his mind and he looses control over his mind. Basically does not think before acting. Skills are to be used only in accordance to the situation and to the limit of the situation. for example, even if you know/have Brahmasthram, you are not supposed to use it just because you have it. ( Pichuka meeda brahmasthram sametha) One needs to study/estimate know the opponents capacity before use the such asthrams/skills.. Ekalavya using his skills on a pig was not justified. for a pig, you are not supposed to use bow and arrow unless you are hunting that pig. He can just use a stick to make the pig run away. Or he can move away from that place and go some where else for meditation. Wrong people acquiring such skills and talent can turn in devastation in unknown future. vunkl, i see your point, and i agree with it, but you are not trying to see the other picture. A teacher who exclusively teaches princes, why should he teach someone who is not a prince. A teacher who exclusively teaches people who will be ruling kingdoms, why should he teach someone who is not going to be one or aspiring to be one. A teacher who treats his students differently based on their attitude, irrespective of their capabilities, take the same kind of decision on a person who said he is a student of his? I had long debates on this concept. Should ability and interest be the only criteria to teach someone a potentially dangerous skill. Right from Kungu Panda story to giving nuclear technology to USA, who subsequently killed thousands of Japanese. whats the bid deal with archery? Ekalavya could learn it by himself watching someone else - meaning its not an impossible task. evado nerpaka pothe naakenti, nenu nerchukunta anukunnodu evarina nersukovachu. skills are learnt on need basis, whats the need of a person who doesnt have to go to war, learn a skill? ofcourse - not supporting the birth or blood dictates the type of skill one can learn. between are all soldiers kshatriya's? debatable. Popular masters - may have reservations that they will teach only to princes, or would be kings. hardly any mistake in my view. | ||

drona took drustadrumnya (who is born to kill drona per yaagam of drupada) as his disciple to teach archery. Drona never taught brahma sironamaka astram to his own son aswaddhama knowing his temperment. upon insist he told how to release but not withdraw, hoping he will never use it. But aswaddhama used it against the kith and kin of all pandavas at the end of war. I don't know how authentic OR the source of his pulihara Dronacharya went to forest along with pandavas...then he saw a dog with its mouth full of arrows (ekalavya shot the arrows) ..dronacharya guessed that its a work of an exceptional archer.. he felt that its cruel on part of archer and he will be a menace in the future..so he went to ekalavya and the rest of story everybody knows.. I seriously think this story is apologist view to support dronacharya atrocious action | ||

One bad day, Ekalavya is doing meditation in jungle.. oka adavi pandi started screaming for no reason and that disturbed him.. So he took his bow and arrow and shot some 14 or so arrows in split second and those arrows went from bottom jaw to top jaw of adavi pandi.. so it couldn't close or move its mouth.. tough to explain.. imagine it as big braces that dentist puts in the mouth so that we don't bite accidentally or as reflux while he is doing treatment So as per Drona, Ekalavya has very bad temperament.. Astra's shouldn't be in such people's hands.. not good for society... where as Arjuna has good temperament and follows Dharma all the time.. So Drona asked for Ekalavya's thumb so that his expertise in archery doesn't harm the world Good reasoning in my opinion Don't say you don't have enough time. Till date i had misconception about Dronacharya - Ekalavya thread in MahaaBharatham Today i heard a different perspective / POV.. so thought of sharing here if anyone is interested Ippativarku vunna idea - Ekalavya learned archery etc on his own by using Dronacharya's picture/idol as Guru.. because Drona declined to teach him as he is not from Kshatriya family But when he finally learned it and became almost as good as Arjuna, Drona asked his thumb as Guru dakshina as he didn't want anyone to better than his own sishya Arjuna... All these days i was thinking.. that's not fair. First you said no to teaching and then when he learned it on his own.. you ask for guru dakshina.. unfair anukune vaadini Anyone else in the same boat?
