Once again tammi I am not supporting Nizam blindly for everything, his role in Razakars though not directly cannot be condoned , he was under the sway of the small time laywer Qasim Rizvi and Liaq ali. However his family does need to get mention for the the good things they have done. Cotton is just a servant of the east india empire who calculated the rewards of constructing the barrage across the river and approved it. The argument is never how Nizam was great in all aspects, its about what the asaf jahi nizams did for development of Hyderabad. tammi we have to see the merits of the argument on both sides. Nizam became a rogue towards the end of his rule because of Qasim Rizvi and his goons and mostly because of the uprising. Yes he was wealthy because he taxed people to hell but so were the other rulers of this country. So aspirations of people do matter kada when you say local people wanted to be with India so Hyderabad occupation was justified. Well we have to apply the same logic to Kashmir, 85% of people were muslims and they leaned towards a merge with pakistan while Hari singh had different ideas and the rest is history. The context of nizams always comes when talk about development comes, so the asaf zahis had actually done lot of good things for Hyderabad and Telangana as a whole including maintaining all off the cheruvulu dug during the kakatiya rule and also constructed new ones. There was jamindari system as it was prevalent in many other parts of india. We only see Nizam as despotic for obvious but there were equal number of Indian princely states who taxed the hell out of their people and lived life. I do not subscribe to the atrocities of any king be it nizam or anybody. Unfortunately we tend to pass of Nizam as the only culprit here while not blaming any of his feudal lords who were 98% hindus. Hyderabad was geographically nowhere close to pakistan and its aspirations of staying Independent would not have been physically possible as existing as another independent nation inside another nation. But that was exactly the charter in the British handover of power to india document says. States can decide whether to join Indian Union or pakistan or stay as buffer. In principle Hyd state was exercising its option of staying independent. So taruvata no anna taruvata razakars etc anedi its history leading to annexation to the Indian Union, that is the history. Now to debate if Nizam wanted to stay independent when 85% of the population was Hindu is a different argument because then the kashmir issue will come in to picture.
