Insurance:
You have very bad insurance coverage. Next time ask for uninsured price at the emergencies etc or go to urgent care and ask for uninsured price.

Few years ago, we had an ultrasound scheduled in december. They said it would cost us 700+ as the deductible has to be covered. So we were debating if we should postpone scan to Jan for following year's deductible. The lady suggested going with uninsured price. Turns out, it is only 115. Lesson learnt.

1. Sleepy's : I purchased a king size mattress for $ 1200. After 3 months, the box started giving screech sounds and mattress became very uneven. I started getting lower back pain. I called up customer service as it is in Warranty period. They asked me if there are any stains, burns, damage. I told them that there was on small scratch of 2-3 cms. I requested them to send their person, get it checked and then either repair or replace. They declined. I went to the shop where I purchased...The same sales woman who was so polite while buying now says they cannot own this and it should be dealt with customer service.

2. Verizon : I paid $250 as security deposit for my triple plan (TV, Internet & Phone) In June 2013. Since I was new to USA in 2013 and did not have credit history, they said it is refundable in June 2015. From last one month I have been making calls to customer service...Every time and on each call I spend 25-30 mins as they keep transferring from billing department to financial services department. Every time to each person, I need to explain the whole story (why do they not have customer call history as notes). They say they have raised a request (they gave me 5 reference IDs till now) and say I will get a cheque in 7-10 business days.

3. Ikea : Since I had a bad experience with Sleepy's, I took the queen size mattress from Ikea. They outsource the delivery to a external vendor. It seems they will not put in the house if it is only higher floors. My apartment is in 1st floor. They dumped the bed at my main door and fought with my wife saying they will give only door delivery as they cannot take risk of damage to bed or person if they lift it to 1st floor. When I reached from office, the bed was at the door. I have being following up on customer service for such a pathetic service, but Ikea says they are not responsible for delivery. The customer service with that vendor is an automated service and hardly I get a chance to catch hold of a person.




1. Sleepy's case - check the documentation on whats covered in warranty. Memory foam alantivi ayite, they have specifics on how they cover (for eg: The mattress is depressed by 2 cm in middle something like that). Take pictures that will show unevenness and measurement if necessary and politely tell them you expected better service by saying 1200$ and you got a crappy product. Sometimes you have to do your homework on whats covered.. they wont tell you exactly what clause you can use against them.

2. Verizon - next time you call, explain your situation to them with reference numbers and tell them politely that you have followed up with these many times with no success, now ask them if somebody could follow up and update you rather than you try and find out. You will find one employee that wanted to go the extra mile, provided you explain situation in a calm way politely but at the same time explain your disappointment.

3. Ikea: badluck. Sometimes we got to ask lot of stupid questions before. chalk it as a lesson and move on

american lo doctors worst. nenu repu sachipotunna ante 2 months taravatha appointment istanu antaru. slight exxageration. but most of the rates they( doctors etc) bill to the insurance are outrageous. the insurance says we got you a discount of so much and you pay somuch. if you get a blood test that is not authorized or not fully covered you will end paying huge amount when the same test can be had from same company for 1/10 th price if you shop by yourself. There is not much you can do about it. If you think the bill is unreasonable ask questions or see if they can give some discount. it may work sometimes.

2) verizon, go to the store and talk to them directly.
3) Ikea - you should have asked them before purchasing it. NFM does assembling even there are lot of other stores who do it for free.

anyway, may be the cost you are seeing is their charges.. unless there is a complication the insurance pays less than 10,000.

Thanks for the information...I shall take it up for Sleepy's in specific..as I faced lot of mental trauma with the sales and customer serive people.

The problem is the automated voice responders...they ask to press this number and that number of this issue and that issue...but end of the day, unless you speak to a person and explain the issue, I cannot understand how can we get the required resolution.

It looks like most of them have learnt it the hard way and accept how US works...Thanks all for ur inputs, but on medical bills...just because insurance is paying they cannot bill 55,000 dollars for delivery charges..

4. Doctors - Just because this country runs on insurance, the health care community are the WORST looters. No wonder every one here wants to become a doctor or dentist.

a) My 5 year old daughter accidently put a beed in her nose. We rushed her to a emergency care in a hospital at Summit, NJ. They made us wait for 40 mins and in took 20 mins to remove the beed thru a syringe. BILL is $ 2700. Post insurance, I am supposed to pay $ 1100 as it is taken to a emergency. Doctor Surgery Charges 900 anta, emergency room rent for 24 hours (we were there for 55-60 mins) 1100 anta...and then service tax bongo boshanam anni 700 extra..

warranty lo specific ga untundhi mama.. tear to the mattress will not be covered. Its always better to buy a seperate warranty which covers a lot more things especially when you buy a mattress..

and one more thing.. always buy mattress from local family owned store not national chain.. family owned vaadi service even after purchase baaguntundhi.

3. IKEA customer service ki call chesi let them know that their vendor service sucks ani and let them also know that you are not satisfied with ikea as well just for this reason..

Medical system works in US different, emergency services cost more , also $3000 out of pocket expenses is normal .. with $55000 it is 1/20'th of total bill , which like pay 6 % of total bill
You can sue the doctors and other reasons for high cost of medical bills, but in the end you will pay only deductible ..

You will get security deposit back, it is just a hassle you have to go through and waste your time from verizon

Door delievery , for Ikea , that is the fine and that is what you get for the money you paid in Ikea. There are other places where you can get the white glove service , if you buy them in Macy's for example

Sleepys , looks like you had bad experience , complain in http://www.bbb.org/ or http://www.consumeraffairs.com/furniture/sleeps.htm

Some of the products , including cars, homes etc depends on our luck, we may get a below average product and poor customer service

India lo I had tough time dealing with government offices (like water, income tax, revenue, RTO, electricity etc.) due to corruption and red tapism. But US vochha ka my grievances are with private companies (service providers).
