Yes, I too think he had to tread carefully. However, i feel he overtly simplified, probably because he wanted to put things humorously. Movie reminded me of Gods Must Be Crazy, conceptually. PK graduates quite quickly with the concept of Barter, that started with giving papers to get food, and later offering payment for listening time with "God". | ||

This must be a record of sorts - not MS watching the movie but the sheer number of threads on the movie - that is not starting Chiru or Bala  Congrats AK MS, Agree the subject had a lot more potential and could have taken many different storylines - I think he deliberately kept it superficial. the point he wanted to convey is not just about baba but humans illogical beliefs and stupidity. and he chose alien to convey that to make it neutral and also to make it novel. I believe that. On the whole the move is a parady on our beliefs. as a movie my rating is average | ||

i dont think thats the case, although we would never conclusively know his true intentions are. To me the movie is about the alien, the title character. I will stick to it, based on what i have seen. the story about baba, comes probably a good 45 mins after the movie starts. if the movie was actually intended to be about baba's, the director's approach is compeltely wasted, as it wastes valuable story telling time to establish the characters. | ||

i dont think it has to be any scientific at all. the movie is not about how an alien landed in this world, but its about an alien trying to understand humans and their soceity. whats the need of being overly concerned about science. a fellow organism capable of learning and mocking in the world of other organisms. PK could have actually chosen to learn from animals if he landed in a jungle! | ||

OMG actually is about God and Baba's, but PK could have been much more, it was about an alien. I do not see similarities apart from the obviously anti-baba views in both the movies. Hirani, im my view failed to project the journey of the alien through the human psyche, but stuck to one point more than the others. that was disappointing to me. | ||

ofcourse - you can draw parallel to chaplin's style of acting, but it was a pretty decent effort from AK, including the dialect. Communication by phsyical contact was sparringly used, ofcourse there were mild pointers as to why the alien might have not used it more frequently to understand the difference between truth and lie. | ||

voook, granted im a bit thick skinned but i dont get the hoopla behind the movie. It was just another ordinary movie, barring Amir's efforts. Hirani, Im afraid is slipping into SV Krishna Reddy mode, where he can tell a children's story well, and his simplistic extrapolation of ideas tend to coat issues in to black and white, with a lack of proper argumentative treatment. Its sad, that the movie ended up as an anti-Baba rhetoric, where as it could have easily taken on much more idiotic human weaknesses, ofcourse money laundering Baba-ism is quite an amazing mirror to a fragile stand of faith, of many. Next coming to secular view point, that alien landed in a overly crowded hindu nation, we just have to get over it. About love jihad, i think the move took a far better stand. in the end the lady character (jaggu) reveals that PK left behind two "friends", one his father and the other her ex-lover. It did not indicate, if they were married, or if there was any further relation between them, as it seemed Jaggu might have fallen in love with the alien! . |
