Ram Charan seems to be in a very relaxed mood, with only a few days left for the release of his latest film ‘Govindhudu Andhari Vadele’. Charan’s confidence in the film is apparent and he has the air of an actor who is deeply satisfied. This young mega hero interacted with media members today, to speak about the film and share his views about working with Krishna Vamsi. Charan also revealed a few interesting pieces of information about his upcoming projects. This is the transcript of our conversation. Q. You have a powerful mass image. What made you say yes to a family entertainer like GAV? A. I have been looking to act in a complete family entertainer for a while now and GAV was perfect for what I had in mind. It is a subject that has a great deal of family emotions and values. Q. Krishna Vamsi has not had a hit in many years. Did you not consider it a risk when you signed up for this film? A. Despite registering some flops at the Box Office, I never ever felt that Krishna Vamsi failed as a director. Maybe the choice of subject failed and the theme might not have gone down well with audiences, but Krishna Vamsi as a person never failed. That was enough for me. You see,I have never chased successful directors in my career. My preference has and will always be for the subject. When I am satisfied with my character and story, I will go ahead with the project. Q. Working with Krishna Vamsi brings out new shades in an actor. Did you experience something like that? A. Yes! There were many such instances. I used to read my scene, prepare for it and then step out of my van to act. But then, Krishna Vamsi used to give me a totally different style of narration for the very same scene. He will make you think about new angles and perspectives. He also showed me that the flavour of a film can be changed in the dubbing theater too. Q. What are your favourite Krishna Vamsi films? A. I like Chandamama, Murari and Ninne Pelladutha. Q. Tamil actor Raj Kiran was replaced by Prakash Raj after a few days of shoot. What happened? A. Mr. Raj Kiran is a very talented person. But somewhere, all of us felt that the required Telugu nativity was not coming through in his performance. That is when we decided to bring in Prakash Raj and it was a big plus for the film. Prakash Raj gave a lot of inputs and he enabled us to shoot some more scenes than we had in mind. As an Industry, we have not used Prakash Raj perfectly over the last few years. This film will show Prakash Raj’s full potential. Q. Krishna Vamsi is known for his heavy family dramas. Will GAV also have a heavy dose of sentiment? A. I cannot call it heavy but there will be some really good emotions in the film. GAV will mostly proceed in a light hearted manner and we have taken adequate precautions to prevent any kind of sentimental overdose. Q. This is your third film with Kajal. How do you rate her as an actress? A. Kajal Aggarwal is a senior actress and I enjoy working with her. You will see a new Kajal in this movie. She looks very beautiful in this film. Q. There seems to be an intimate song in the movie. Were you comfortable doing it? A. No, I was not. In fact, Krishna Vamsi was quite tense about my participation in the song (Laughs). But in the end, the song came out really well. Q. What role did Paruchuri Brothers play in the development of this film? A. Their contribution for this film is immense. They drove Vamsi and me to perfection, by refining the screenplay. Paruchuri Brothers brought the necessary impact to many scenes and dialogues with their immense experience. Q. What are your expectations on the film, commercially? Will it touch 100 Crores, like producer Bandla Ganesh says? A. I think it will do very well. As for my producer Bandla Ganesh, it is good if he thinks the film has so much potential. Q. Will you be doing a film with Sreenu Vaitla? A. I am yet to take a call on that. We will know soon. Q. Any plans to enter the Tamil Film Industry? A. I have plans to do a straight Tamil film soon and I am in talks with Gautam Menon.Perhaps, this film will take off next year.. Q. You have tasted commercial success with formula entertainers. Will you experiment in future? A. I will not experiment at the cost of the producer and distributor. I don’t want to do films for awards and create losses for producers. Within commercial limitations of our films, I will do what I can to keep myself fresh. Q. Your first Bollywood venture was not successful. How did you react to the criticism? Any plans to do another film? A. I definitely have plans for my next Bollywood film but it is too early to talk about it now. I have seen the criticism levelled against me for ‘Zanjeer’. Perhaps, I did not connect to the story or did not understand the character well enough. I don’t know. But I have no regrets and Apoorva Lakhia is still a very good friend. Q. How is Chiranjeevi’s 150th film shaping up? A. We have finalised two to three subjects and they are being developed right now.
