They are human, who said they are not? The reason Rama even if not an avatar that many wont believe, there is no person in whole earth till date that has lived perfectly accordingly to Dharma, every action, every word, every thing was aligned to Dharma at that times. Is it not enough to worship some one who is good about? Forget about avatar and other stuff.. Mahabharata is an epic. The times have changed at that time where Dharma if it is 50% and Adharma is 50%. So as per those days, Pandavas who followed Dharma to their maximum possible extent became Heros and others who didnt became Villains. The characters are more than life, so they got more popular. A real guru doesn't teach anything per se, he only guides you to attain ultimate destiny, self realization, the path is a tailor made for each of his disciple. Its more like watching you and helping you in right time in any form to go in right direction. It doesn't mean that he will do everything for you. A big NO. Your life and you are responsible for your actions. You will find your real Guru once you are ready at that stage.. Till them its hard to find one.
It is not a pre-requisite that one should not eat meat to be a Rishi, if so then its a misconcept..
