According to NASa , if india is capable of running this mission even half the way then it is going to be big achievement. Challenges. 1) India is following path of age old technology. It is not shooting satellite to mars directly. It is first orbiting earth and slowly increasing orbit and finally it drop the satellite to mars path. This would really reduce lots of expenditure as rocket need not to have that much power. 2)satellite itself is very small in by weight. it is hard to direct and manage it in orbit. if this reaches mars then that is biggest achievement. 3) Making satellite work for 1 years in deep space with the commnication going to be really challenging. If india can achieve that then it will surely beat china and russia and stand next to NASA.. Shivakumar, 60, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre. Responsible for developing satellite technology and implementing satellite systems for scientific, technological and application missions. * P. Kunhikrishnan, 52, Project Director, PSLV programme; ninth time as mission director. The Rs 450-crore Mars Mission called the Mangalyam lifted off from Sriharikota at 2.38 pm today. All parameters were normal at the time of the launch. Over a 1000 scientists from ISRO looked on anxiously as the rocket blasted off. The first stage was extremely critical for the launch and scientists heaved a sigh of relief when it went off smoothly. The vehicle data stations which has been collecting the data has sent back information that the progress has been very good. All the three stages of the launch were completed successfully and it has been termed as a text book launch. The launch vehicle is now at a range of 3000 kilometres and and altitude of 203 kilometres. It is very close to the orbital velocity.  | ||
