Bro, jst becoz British ruled us & did a few good things, we dont sing praises of their rule....we remember the oppression & pain which outweighed the benefits. This is even more true in case of Muslim invaders. Single handedly they looted most of our treasures and destroyed most of our temples. Lakhs of our ppl died defending our land against them. There might have been a few good rulers here n there, but we are talking abt th consequences of the invasion on a whole & there is nothing to be proud of. Jst becoz they did a few good things with our own money which was looted doesnt mean they did any favour to us.... Neither does the history become any more glorified than it was. This is history. It is a fact & we have no where to hide. | ||

Take Pride in the last great battle the Telugus fought successfully: "The short rule of Musunuri Nayaks was a glorious example of Telugu pride and assertion of independence. Subsequent to the capture of Prataparudra the vandalism and atrocities of the Muslim hordes demoralized the common people who were unfamiliar with the methods adopted by the invaders. King Pratapa Rudra’s Kakatiya kingdom was ably served by seventy five chieftains called Nayaks. The Nayaks who belonged to various castes were divided by mutual jealousy and rivalry. However, the Nayak chiefs valiantly fought during the hour of the need. Two patriotic souls, Annaya Mantri and Kolani Rudradeva exhorted and united the Nayaks and instilled a sense sacrifice to protect the Telugu country and Hindu Dharma. A valiant Nayak hailing from Vengi (in modern-day West Godavari district) was chosen as their leader. He was Musunuri Prolayanayak (Prolaaneedu), a brave and battle-hardy Kamma warrior. Prolaneedu galvanized the Nayaks with his organizational skills. Battles were fought at all levels at a great cost and independence was achieved after many a sacrifice. Prolaneedu liberated Warangal by 1326 and drove away Muslims from Telugu country. Many of the inscriptions glorified the victories of Prolaya and the statecraft he practised. Inspired by the victories of Prolaneedu and his cousin Kaapaneedu, other states like Kampili, Hoysala, Dwarasamudram and Araveedu asserted independence. The cousins actively assisted other kings to achieve freedom from the Sultanate. Harihara and Bukka who were captured at Warangal by Ulugh Khan and converted to Islam were sent by the Sultan to suppress the rebellion of the Hoysala ruler. The brothers, however, switched sides and went on to establish Vijayanagara Empire. The Sultan was enraged and personally led a huge army southward. He reached Warangal but had to make a hasty retreat. Historians opined that a great epidemic prevalent during that time and the formidable resistance of the Nayaks were the reasons for the retreat. Kaapaneedu wanted to utilize the opportunity to liberate the whole of Telangana including Bidar. He sought the help of the Hoysala ruler in this endeavour. Kaapaya succeeded in capturing the Warangal fort and liberating Telangana from the invaders. The flag of Andhradesa was again unfurled on the Warangal fort. Kaapaya was given the titles "Andhradesaadheeswara" and "Andhrasuratraana". It was a moment of great glory in the history of Telugu land which now extended from Srikakulam to Bidar and Siripur to Kanchi." Take Pride!  | ||

Yendo! While on one side, the Marathas were bravely fighting against the Mughals and held their own till the British rule, we already surrendered ourselves to the Bahmanis & Nizams much earlier. Vijayanagaram dynasty was the last great Hindu kingdom to rule entire AP. While some small kingdoms held fort, they too fell to Nizams/British later. Palnadu Battle is a classic example of how we fought within ourselves and gave in to Moghals & Ghoras. Most unfortunate part is today's generation (especially Hyd & surrounding) thinks our entire history was all about Bahmanis & Nizams thanks to their cultural influence in the later part of the past few centuries. We had a much greater and proud history of Telugu Kingdoms starting from Satavahanas, Ikshvaku, Kakatiya, Chola & Vijayanagara empires. Thanks to the atrocities later, most of our cultural treasures, temples and artifacts have been wiped out or conquered. Our treasuries looted only to show off to the world as 'Nizam to be one of the Richest' in the world. While we had a tragic end to our own legacies, it pains to see some other culture integrated into ours and pose as our own. | ||

I strongly feel Shivaji must have inspired from Vijayanagara story.. unfortunately vijayanagara empire was destroyed by internal culprits and external forces.. where as Marathas kept on fighting untill british.. they defeated british in few wars.. this must have glorified Marathas.. and founder Shivaji gave tough fight to most powerful anti hindu king in india.. this must have brought an iconic image to Shivaji.. appatlo unna chala moodha nammakala ku Shivaji kooda bali ayyad.. tanaku antoo oka kshatriya lineage undali ani konni stories rayinchukonnad ani stories.. history has so many secrets.. some do not want to dig to hurt their/others sentiments.. no siggy | ||

The second component of defensive fort warfare was matching the movements with weather. Forts are an asset in rest of the year, but are a liability in monsoon as it costs a lot to carry food and supplies up. Also the monsoon in coasts and ghats is severe in nature and no major military movement is possible. Thus Marathas often fought till Monsoon and surrendered the fort just before Monsoon. Before surrendering they burned all the food inside. Thus making it a proposition of loss in every way.
